Assignment 1: The Role of the Entrepreneur


Instructions

Save this file in your Eship folder, and name it with Assignment, the section number, and your first initial
and last name. For example, Jessie Robinson's assignment for Section 1 would be named
Assignment1JRobinson.

Type the answers to the assignment questions below. Use complete sentences unless the question
says otherwise. You will have more than one day to complete an assignment. At the end of each day,
be sure to save your progress.

Review Lesson 4 of the Course Overview for instructions about turning in your assignments.

In Section 1, you learned about some well-known entrepreneurs. Now, choose another
famous entrepreneur to learn more about.

Here are some ideas, or you can pick a different entrepreneur that interests you.

Go to the company's Web site and read about its history, and then answer the following
questions.

company's corporate site. If it's difficult to find or the company doesn't provide much
information, you may want to choose a different company.

Coca-Cola sells their products everywhere. Mainly in grocery stores.

Dr.Pepper and PepsiCo are two of the Coca-Cola companies competitors.

5. How did the entrepreneur make the business different from other companies, especially
its competitors? Describe at least one way. (2-4 sentences. 2.5 points)
Coca Cola and its rivals are using a mix of techniques including marketing, diverse product
range, competitive pricing and attractive packaging as well as technology for customer
engagement and to build customer loyalty.

6. What things has the entrepreneur or company done to help the community? Describe at
least one example of this. (2-4 sentences. 2.5 points)
The Coca-Cola Foundation is the global philanthropic arm of The Coca-Cola Company.
Since its inception in 1984, the Foundation has awarded more than $1 billion in grants to
support sustainable community initiatives —from water to women's empowerment, from
community recycling to wellbeing—around the world.

7. Why do you think this company became successful? Describe at least one reason. (2-4
sentences. 5.0 points)
A significant part of Coca-Cola's success is its emphasis on brand over product. Coke
doesn't sell a drink in a bottle, it sells “happiness” in a bottle. ... Instead, Coke aims to sell
consumers the experience and lifestyle associated with its brand.

8. What challenges has the company faced? Describe at least one challenge. (2-4
sentences. 5.0 points)
Coca-Cola has combated problems such as unemployment, global warming, and rising
interest rates. The Coca-Cola Company looks to new programs to encourage employment,
additional ways to provide water for their product, and good management to maintain a
healthy credit rating.
