Rationale - Student Development
The Case study shows that the teacher knows how students develop. This Case study looked at a student
with an IEP, and how he related to his regular education peers. I observed the developmental
differences and similarities in both the IEP student and his regular education peers. Through the case
study I identified how the teacher (Mrs. Rossi) and paraprofessional (Mr. Breen) interacted with the
students and how they specifically provided learning opportunities that support their intellectual, social,
and personal development of the student. I observed how the teacher led students to intellectual
development as she asked questions and provided extra context to help all her students think and
answer questions. I observed how the teacher addressed the social and personal development needs of
the student as she interacted with students. She engaged students in conversation about biology and
about their lives. She used positive reinforcement in large and small group settings. Since I was able to
observe this teacher/paraprofessional in this class I witnessed and now know how to effectively provide
learning opportunities that support their intellectual, social, and personal development.

This assignment shows how the teacher provides learning opportunities that support their intellectual
development. This assignment was on COVID-19 and what happens biologically when an individual gets
it. This assignment gives students the chance to intellectually develop because new information is
presented and allows students to identify and explain this new information. COVID-19 has over taken
the lives of our students and it is important students have an intellectual understanding of the virus. This
assignment also supports the social and personal development of students. This assignment has an
opinion related question about the COVID-19 vaccine. This question allows students to think and express
their beliefs. students will be able to identify what they personally believe. This will develop their own
metacognition about COVID vaccines. This assignment asks who they believe should take it if they want
to take it when it is available or if they want to wait. These are all personal questions about their beliefs.
Students also will realize that COVID and specifically the vaccine is a social issue and that others in their
class and community may have different beliefs. This assignment helps them realize this fact, and it
helps them realize that this is ok. Understanding that individuals have differing opinions and how to
respect them results in social development.
