Workshop 3

Copy and Delete Commands

1) Use the directory C:\This PC\User as starting point

 In setting up the starting point, I created manually a This PC directory


and its subdirectory which is the User and then I right click the
command prompt in the start menu and go over its properties. In the
properties, I typed "C:\This PC\User" in the start in menu.

2) Make a directory named Operating System in C:\Second


Semester\BTVTED\Personal Files

 Inside the starting point directory which is the C:\This PC\User, I


created a directories C:\Second Semester\BTVTED\Personal Files
and then typed md “Operating System” to make directory after the
Personal Files Directory.

3) Add a subdirectory in the Operating System named Lecture Notes

 In creating this task, I did only typed cd Operating System to go inside


the Operating system Directory and then typed md “Lecture Notes” to
create the subdirectory.
4) Access the directory D:\Power Points\Temporary from your current
directory

 In accessing the directory D:, I only typed D: after the C:\This PC\
User\Second Semester\BTVTED\Personal Files\Operating
System\Lecture Notes.
 In creating the Power Points Directory in D:, I just only type md “Power
Points” and then typed cd Powe Points to change the directory wherein
I will created the Temporary Subdirectory by typing md Temporary.
 In creating the pptx and docx files inside the Temporary Subdirectory, I
did create it and saving it on the said subdirectory.

5) Copy the presentation and document files to the subdirectory Lecture


Notes: Introduction to Computers.ppt, Topic 1.ppt, Topic 2.ppt and
Topic 3.ppt, Laboratory Report.doc and Laboratory notes.doc. Verify if
the files were copied in the said directory.
 In copying all the files that are present on the Temporary Directory in
drive D:, I only typed D:\>xcopy “D:\Power Points\Temporary”
“C:\This PC\ User\Second Semester\BTVTED\Personal
Files\Operating System\Lecture Notes. I used xcopy because it can
copies different file types and more than one files in only one transfer.
 In verifying the copied files on the said directory, I just access the drive C:
by typing C: after the D:\Power Points\Temporary> and then typed dir
after C:\This PC\ User\Second Semester\BTVTED\Personal
Files\Operating System\Lecture Notes>

6) Delete the Temporary directory and its contents. Verify the files and
directory were deleted.

 In deleting the Temporary Directory, I only typed D:\Power


Points\Rmdir /S Temporary. I used Rmdir /S rather that del because
it is specifically deleting a certain directory included it contents.
 In checking that the files and the directory were all deleted, I only typed
dir after D:\Power Points>

7) Draw the directory tree in item number 2.

 C:\This PC\ User\Second Semester\BTVTED\Personal

8) Rename the directory Personal Files to your first name Files (eg. Juan
Files), the directory Power Points to your last name Presentations (eg.
Dela Cruz Presentations), and Lecture Notes to OS Lecture Notes. Verify
the results.
Operating

 In renaming the Personal Files Directory, I only typed ren “Personal
Files” “Chrissie Files” as the new directory name after C:\This PC\
User\Second Semester\BTVTED> and the typed dir to verify the
results.

 In renaming the Power Points Directory in drive D:, I typed D: after


C:\This PC\ User\Second Semester\BTVTED> to change the drive
itno D: and then typed ren “Power Points” “Torres
Presentations”as the new directory name after D:\>. In verifying the
results, I only types dir .
 In renaming the Lecture Notes, I typed C: after D:\Torres
Presentations to change the drive into C: anf then typed ren “Lecture
Notes” “OS Lecture Notes” after C:\This PC\ User\Second
Semester\BTVTED\Chrissie Files\Operating System> and typed dir
to verify the results.
9) Rename the files Topic 1.ppt to DOS Create Directory, Topic 2.ppt to
DOS Rename, and Topic 3.ppt to Copy and Delete. Verify the results.

 In renaming file Topic 1.pptx to DOS Create Directory, I only typed


ren “Topic 1.pptx” “ DOS Create Directory” after C:\This PC\
User\Second Semester\BTVTED\Chrissie Files\Operating
System\OS Lecture Notes>
 In renaming file Topic 2.pptx to DOS Rename, I only typed ren
“Topic 2.pptx” “ DOS Rename” after C:\This PC\ User\Second
Semester\BTVTED\Chrissie Files\Operating System\OS Lecture
Notes>
 In renaming file Topic 3.pptx to Copy and Delete, I only typed ren
“Topic 3.pptx” “ Copy and Delete after C:\This PC\ User\Second
Semester\BTVTED\Chrissie Files\Operating System\OS Lecture
Notes>
 When all task file were ranamed, I typed dir to verify the results.
