The Escape Plan by Bennah Marie M. Eliseo
The Escape Plan by Bennah Marie M. Eliseo
Mrs. Susan Coleman was 66 when she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. She was a
retired principal with a grumpy mood most of the time. During her early 30’s, she was married to
a general who died in World War II. At the age of 70, Mrs. Susan Coleman is living alone in an
old apartment with her 3 cats. She treats them as her babies because she had no offspring with
her husband.
Though Mrs. Coleman is a wealthy woman, nobody stands her attitude. Whenever she hires a
house helper, she complained a lot of things about them; firing them or making them quit their
job. One night while Mrs. Coleman was on her bed, she noticed a shadow of a man wearing a
black dress and his face covered with a hood. This man was holding a scythe standing beneath
her door. She closed her eyes and blink and the shadow was gone.
In the morning, she continued with her daily routine, preparing breakfast for her and her cats,
putting the laundry in the washing machine, and watching television in the living room. Days
turned nights and for a week, she would regularly see the shadow beneath her bedroom door
every night. One evening, the shadow appeared again but this time he spoke. “Susan Parker
Coleman, born June 12, 1928, married a military general….so on and so forth…”
Mrs. Coleman was wide eyed when she saw and heard the shadow but she managed to calm
herself thinking she’s just dreaming. The shadow spoke again saying “Now it is your time, I
must take you with me since you’re the first one on my list. You no longer belong in this world. I
will now end the pain that you feel.” “Wait!” said Mrs. Coleman, “Are you the angel of death?
How sure are you that it is my time?” The shadow opened an old book with list of names of
those who should be taken. Mrs. Coleman was really curious of the list. She let the shadow sit
Mrs. Coleman started to cry asking for repentance. She told the shadow about the things she
wanted to do and dreamt about. She even showed him her bucket list. She let the shadow closed
his eyes to feel everything she’s saying. When the creature does so, she immediately erased her
name on the first list and put it at the end. When the shadow opened his eyes, he felt pity. So he
told Mrs. Coleman, “I can feel that you still need to finish the things you wanted to do, so I think
I would delay. I am giving you the chance of living longer, so I would fetch the last person on
my list.”
