Initial Startup
1) To Start SMS Manager Click Start->Programs->Mobile Communicator-SMS Manager
2) If this is the first time the software has been run following installation, this message will
be displayed. If the software comms have already been setup then you should ignore
the Comms Configuration on the next page.

Comms Configuration
Your SMS Device will need to be configured using the correct Com port. Ensure the Serial port
cable is secure and you have noted the correct COM port the SMS device will be connected to.
Note the Auto Detect Button can check if any device is available and confirm. To select this
window select from the Main Screen select TOOLS -> CONFIGURATION from the main menu
or Config from the toolbar.
Once the SMS device has been configured the toolbar should become enabled and the main
SMS Manager window will appear. This will be very similar to an email client window such as
Microsoft Outlook with the folder list appearing on the left hand side.

Menu Items
The menu at the top of the screen allows the user to access the following options:
File
o New SMS : Create New SMS
o New Address : Create New Address
o Delete SMS : Deletes the currently selected SMS
o Show Address Book : Shows the Address Book dialog
o Print : Prints the currently selected SMS
o Print Setup : Displays standard Windows Print Setup Dialog
o Export : Exports the currently selected folder in either XML,CSV, TXT or HTML
format
Edit
o Cut : Cuts the currently selected text
o Copy : Copy’s the currently selected text
o Paste : Pastes the cut/copied text
SMS
o Get SMS : Upload SMS from phone
o Send SMS : Send SMS from outbox
o Reply SMS : Reply to currently selected SMS
o Forward SMS : Forward currently selected SMS
o Send/Receive SMS : Upload SMS from phone AND Send SMS from outbox
Tools (All of these options have full descriptions in the following pages)
o Configuration : Displays the Comms configuration dialog
o Options : Displays the Options dialog
o Diagnostics : Display the Diagnostics dialog
View
o Toolbar : Hides/Shows the toolbar

Toolbar Items
Folder Select
The folder select on the left of the screen allows the user to navigate through the Inbox, outbox,
Sent Items, Address Book, etc.
List Viewer
This displays information relative to which folder is selected. For example, if the user selects
Inbox, this will display the Inbox SMS. Likewise, if the user selects Address Book, this will
display the list of addresses.
Also, by right clicking on the list viewer, a popup menu is displayed offering short cuts to the
more important options.
Preview Panel
This displays a preview of the selected item in the list viewer. This is not applicable for the
Address Book.

Options Screen
Select Options from the toolbar or Tools->Options from the menu. Here are the option
descriptions:

Send and Receiving SMS
Send an SMS
Click on File->New SMS on the menu or New SMS on the toolbar. The following dialog should
appear.
Either type in the destination number or use the address book to retrieve a stored number. Use
the tab key or mouse to move to the Msg box. Enter your message here.

The main screen should be displayed once more. Click on the sent items to confirm that the
SMS has been sent.
Retrieve an SMS
Click the Upload SMS from Phone button and the software will initialise and attempt to connect
to the SMS device. If any SMS are stored on the phone they will be uploaded to the SMS
Manager and displayed in the inbox. The following dialog is displayed whilst the SMS are
uploaded. By clicking the details button the user can see the communications taking place
between the phone and the software. This is useful for troubleshooting.
Click the Send SMS from outbox to send all of the unsent SMS stored in the outbox. If the
items are sent successfully, the SMS are cleared from the outbox and stored in the sent items
folder. All items which are unsuccessfully sent remain in the outbox until they are successfully
sent.
Click the Send / Receive button to retrieve all SMS from phone and to send all the unsent SMS
stored in the outbox.

Diagnostics Screen
The diagnostics screen displays important information regarding the phone. This can be useful
for troubleshooting problems. It will also provide useful information such as signal strength and
battery life.

Address Book
Once Address book is highlighted in the folder select, columns will change to display list of
users/numbers.

Once the address book is opened, a dialog will be displayed showing all the details. The
buttons will perform the following:

If the user selects Edit the screen will change to look like the following. The user can now
change the details of the current record. When finished, the user should press Save to save
the changes.
