Assignment-4

By-Giriraj das

Question:- Present, in your words, points relevant for your personal application
with specific references to Sanskrit words and phrases, and prabhupada’s
purports, from catuh-sloki-gita.

Answer:-

Introduction

In this catuh-sloki-gita, Krishna is covering all the aspect, our relationship with
Krishna, The process to revive that relationship and the achievement of highest
perfection of life which are in short Sambandh, Abidheya and Prayojan.

What Krishna says in verse 10.8 ?

Aham sarvasya prabhavo…

I am the origin of everything in both the material and spiritual worlds. Everything
emanates from me.Everything is under me, no one is above me. There is no
supreme controller other than me.

From Narayana, Brahma is born, and from Narayana the patriarchs are also born.
from Narayana, Indra is born, from Narayana eight Vasus are born, from Narayana
the eleven Rudras are born, from Narayana the twelve Adityas are born. This
Narayana is an expansion of Krishna. (Ref.Narayana Upanisad)

This all is copied from Gita. Give it as reference. And also as a reference it is too
big.

Points relevant to my application.

1. When we understand the position of Krishna as the origin of everything

then we will be able to see all the living entities with equal vision deprieved
of the pride, envy, superiority etc. then we will be able to develop love,
compassion for them, so by loving the origin one can extend the love for
everyone.(Eg; Mrigari’s life). The whole world is baffled to bring universal
brotherhood because they don’t know the father, therefore by knowing
Krishna as universal fatherhood, universal brotherhood can be established
and consequently peace throughout the universe.
2. By knowing Krishna as the ultimate cause of everything, we will be able to
see the hand of Krishna in all the situations positive and negative and
therefore we will not be disturbed and bewildered by the illusiory energy in
different situations of happiness and misery. Even every imperfections in
this world is the perfect plan of the Lord.
3. If we put Krishna as the central point then there will be no more clashes
among the devotees, everyone will be happy serving Krishna and everyone
will have the common goal to please Krishna without any consideration of
their own personal material motive. “If we throw a pebble in the pond
there will be so many circles created with a common centre without any
clashes but if many pebbles are thrown at a time will create so many circles
with so many different centres clashing with each other”.
4. One who understands Krishna in such a way from a bonafide spiritual
master, with references from vedic literature, engages all his energy in
Krishna consciousness and becomes a truly learned man. Only a fool would
consider Krishna to be an ordinary man. A Krishna conscious person thus
not bewildered by fools, He will avoid all unauthorized commentaries and
interpretations on Bhagavad-gita and proceed in Krishna consciousness
with determination and firmness.

5. By knowing the supremacy of Krishna and following his instructions under
the guidance of a bonafide spiritual master we can carry on this movement
for long time to come, otherwise we will be deviated from the goal of this
movement, We have seen so many other societies started and continued
for very less time because they don’t have the clear goal.

What Krishna says in verse 10.9?

Mac-citta mad-gata-prana…….

The thoughts of my pure devotees dwell in me,their lives are fully devoted to my
service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one
another and conversing about me.

So in this verse the characteristics of the pure devotees have described. Devotees
of the lord are always engaged in glorifying the qualities and pastimes of the
supreme lord. They don’t have any time for material activities, economic
development and sense gratification. They are fully absorbed in the love of god,
infact they cannot live even for a moment without being in contact with supreme
lord just as a fish cannot live without water.

Points relevant to my application.

1.As the seed sowed in the ground ,when it fructifies, need to be taken care of in
the terms of regular watering and protection by fencing around,so similarly we
have got the devotional seed by the mercy of devotees, therefore it must be
cared, by proper watering and fencing and what are these watering and fencing?
Watering means regular hearing and chanting the glories of the lord and Fencing
means always careful, not to commit any offense.

2.If we are always engaged in glorifying the qualities and pastimes of the lord,
then we will have no time for material mundane activities and sense gratification
because being contact with the supreme lord always, we will be very easily able
to give up the lower taste.

What Krishna says in verse 10.10 ?

Tesam satata-yuktanam…….

To those who are constantly devoted to serving me with love, I give the
understanding by which they can come to me.

A person may have a bonafide spiritual master and may be attached to a spiritual
organization, but if he is still not intelligent enough to make progress, then
Krishna from within gives him instructions so that he may ultimately come to him
without difficulty. The qualification is that a person always engage himself in
Krishna consciousness and with love and devotion render all kinds of services.

Points relevant to my application.

1. I should not judge any devotee on the basis of his academic education,
knowledge of sastras, but on the basis of his devotion and love he carries in
his heart for the Lord.(eg: south indian brahman).
2. I should not associate with the mayavadis, mudane people claiming
themselves to be Guru, declaring themselves to be God inspite of knowing
very little about God, Rather I should hear and associate with those who
always engaged in the loving devotional service of the lord as the lord says,
he speaks to such devotees.

What Krishna says in verse 10.11 ?

Tesam evanukampartham……..

To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the
shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.

Due to the contamination of material association, through many, many

millions of births, one’s heart is always covered with the dust of
materialism, but when one engages in devotional service, the dust quickly
clears, and one is elevated to the platform of pure knowledge. The pure
devotee always has Krishna within his heart; and with the presence of
Krishna, who is just like the sun, the darkness of ignorance is at once
dissipated.

Points relevant to my application.

1. I should not try to speculate mentally to understand Krishna because

even if by this process I am able to come to the stage of pure
knowledge, it might takes many-many lifetimes so rather I should
engage myself in devotional service unto the lord and this way the
lord within the heart seeing my sincerity removes all the ignorance.
