Handing the machine Do not extend the machine unless it's in ts final operating position and installation is complete. If the machine is tipped the booms may extend by themselves ~ always secure them when handling the machine. Before liting, the hydraulics need securing inthe full down postion using braces or straps, ‘The machine should be lifted by a crane with suitable liting beam and slings, It ‘may be moved on the ground using machinery moving skates or pallet trucks. Machines with optional traversing or mobile chassis may have the drie unit or drive chain disconnected for easier handling, 2. General Ensure that the electricity supply is corect for the machine and that suitable {using and cable sizes are used. AAn isolator should be supplied which is separate ftom the machine, The machine should be connected by qualified ‘electrician Itis recommended that the power supply to mobile and traversing machines is via a cable reeling drum or festoon system. A separate fused isolator with RCD protection should be fited to the wall ‘After connection check thatthe phasing is correct by extending and retracting the booms. Ifthe operation does not conreepund Wo tne Uireclion of travel swap any ‘wo phases. The standard machines are designed for an ambient temperature range of - 10C(15F) to +450(115). Outside these temperatures modifications ale required {othe types of lubricant, electrical cables, seal materials and belt used, Contact the factory for details Ifthe machine is used as part of a system, an audible and flashing beacon should be used to give a start up waming before the belt starts. The emergency stop circuits should be linked. When the machine links to a system, attention should be paid to pop out rollers at the intersection, SAFE OPERATION Telescopic range All Newland conveyors are manufactured with safety in mind and con‘orm to Health and Safety requirements, However itis important that all personnel involved in using this equipment are aware ofthe potential hazards associated with rotating machinery of any kind but particularly moving belts and toms, ‘DO NOT operate the machine until it has been correcly installed and ‘commissioned. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage and invalidate the warranty Bett Press the appropriate button ‘forward or reverse’, and when the belt has started release the button, To stop the bel, press the ‘belt stop’ button and release it 11 Conveyors are designed to carry a moving load consistent with normal ‘operation . Unless specified when ordering the belt should not be filed by inching’ it along. This will create an overload situation, 2 Unless otherwise specified the maximum load for horizontal conveyors {is 550kg (1200Ibs) evenly distributed over the length ofthe conveyor. For incined conveyors this is 250kg (550lbs) Pace the load centrally onthe belt. Loading the bet off centre may ‘cause the belt to run off track DO NOT leave the belt running unattended. KEEP CLEAR ofthe bet at alltimes, DO NOT operate the machine with the belt significantly running off track. This may cause damage to the machine and belt ane expose roller nip points. DO NOT run the belt with jammed parcels or sacks in place, DO NOT at any time put hands or fingers under the belt whist itis in operation. 8 When unloading, avoid dropping heavy items onto the boom from helght. Either elevate the boom and pul the items onto the belt or drop them onto the vehicle floor and then anto the boom, 10 Beware of badly placed loads faling from high conveyors. Motorised telescopic boom Press the appropriate button ‘in or out. When the required length is reached release the button, Ifthe full extent ofthe mavement is reached the integral torque limiter will be activated preventing damage tothe drive unit — the button should be released immediately. 1 The boom may be extended or retracted withthe belt going ether way or stopped. 2 Always fully retract the boom before moving the vehicle being loaded or unloaded. 3 DONOT work on the booms when inclined, they may move under their ‘own weight when certain drive parts are removed during reaair or maintenance operations ‘Motorised height adjustment Press the appropriate button ‘up or down’. When the required height is reached release the button, I the full extent ofthe movement is reached, the integral Pressure release valve inside the pump will operate preventing damage to the pump, Release the button immediately, 4 The booms should be fuly lowered and made safe after uss, 2 Before working on the hydraulics support the machine. Falure to do sso may result in the machine dropping unexpectedly! Mobile Chas ‘Standard machines are intended to be moved only with the booms reacted. An internal switch i ited to disconnect the control buttons unless the beoms are fully retracted on most machines. 1. Take care thatthe area is clear of people or objects before moving the machine 2 Stop the belt before moving the machine. 3 Keep clear of the wheels on the machine Goneral points " 2 a 4 18 16 7 Make sure the machine is suitable forthe jab it has to do. Ensure the machine is used only for the operations for which and Lnder the conditions for which itis suitable. Ensure the machine is maintained in an efficient state, keptin working ‘order and in good repair. Ensure all personnel are familiar withthe operation of the machine and are ia fit state to operat it. NEVER reach under or over the conveyor whist the bel is ‘unning, DO NOT wear loose clothing or dangiing jewellery and weer suitable footwear. DO NOT put fingers near moving parts such as the telescopic booms, boom hinge points or chassis wheels, DO NOT ride or walk along the belt or boom frames. Only use the belt {or legitimate movement of goods. DO NOT stand or walk under the machine, Before any maintenance! repairs or adjustments are carrec out, the machine should be isolated or disconnected. Before workirg on the ‘conveyor the hydraulics and telescopic booms should be secured Using suitable jacks or supports. The machine should be maintained by a qualified person using only Newland parts. {All machines are to be connected to the mains through an epproved Circuit breaker and wall mounted isolator. Machines are not normally fited with a power supply cable. This should be fited by a competent person to sult inaWvidual site equitements. If possible the supply should be via a cable eeling drum or festoon to avoid cables taling on the floor. ‘Take care when moving the machine or its booms to avoid being {trapped between it and the wall or vehicle. ‘Switch the isolator of atthe mains supply when not in use. Overloading mobile machines may cause them to tp. DO NOT operate the machine with any guards removed. Check the function of all buttons and switches before operating MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE ‘Check function of al controls | Check condition of bel joint . (Check guards for damage and security . Check all oler bearings for noise . Check all gearboxes for oll leaks and noise . CCheck structure for damage, rust, crease and cracks Check floor anchor bots for tightness where fitted .
