Lesson Plan Science 7 - ORCHID 3:00 - 4:00 PM

This lesson plan summarizes a 7th grade science class on speed and velocity. The objectives are for students to distinguish between speed and velocity, understand their real-world importance, and calculate each. The plan includes preliminary greetings and a review. Students will watch video clips to motivate discussion on traffic rules and units of speed. Concepts of speed versus velocity will be presented along with formulas. Students will do an activity matching terms to descriptions. Questions will analyze differences and have students define and give examples of speed and velocity. The lesson closes with applying the concepts and assessing students with sample speed and velocity calculation problems.

b. What do you think is the minimum speed limit in the Philippines?
c. What are the units used related to speed?
d. Are you familiar with the traffic signs below?
C. Presentation of the lesson
1. The teacher will give an overview of the topic by asking the following
questions.
a. What do you think is speed?
b. What are some examples of speed?
c. What is velocity?
d. What are some examples of velocity?

D. Lesson Proper
1. The teacher will present the concepts of the lesson.
SPEED VS VELOCITY
Formulas on how to calculate speed and velocity.

E. Activity
a. The students will be group into two.
b. They will be given 10 minutes to perform the activity and post it on the
board after.
Title of the activity: PICK AND MATCH
Instruction:
1. On your brown envelope are terminologies involved in speed and
velocity.
2. Your task is to match those terms with their corresponding
descriptions.
3. Post it on the board.

TERMINOLOGY DESCRIPTION

VELOCITY CHANGE IN VELOCITY

SPEED MOVEMENT

MOTION OBJECT THAT IS STEADY

REFERENCE POINT SPEED WITH DIRECTION

ACCELERATION DISTANCE OVER TIME

F. Analysis
 Is speed the same as velocity? Explain.
 How do they differ?

G. Abstraction
The teacher will ask the following questions?
a. How do you define speed?
b. What are some examples of speed?
c. How do you define velocity?
d. What are some examples of velocity?

H. Application
 Why is it important that we need to follow traffic rules?
 How can you relate speed in your daily life?
 When it comes to your time management, how can you apply your
knowledge in terms of speed?

IV- ASSESSMENT
Direction: In 1 whole sheet of pad paper, answer the following problems. Each item is
equivalent to 5 points.
