1. Introduction
This document will highlight the steps in proper Installation, commissioning and
Integration of the 1800 LTE/DCS Flexi Multiradio BTS in a Concurrent Mode/RF
sharing configuration; and the correct Optical cabling between the 2 System
Modules (ESMB/C & FSMD/E) & RF Module/s (FXEA).

2. Contact Information
The following are the contact details of the key persons needed for escalation
and coordination in the field as shown in Table 1 below.

Table1. Contacts

3. Connectivity Standards of the 1800 LTE and DCS

3.1 LTE/DCS FLEXI Multi Radio RF Sharing (Concurrent Mode with 1 FXEA)

3.2 LTE/DCS FLEXI Multi Radio RF Sharing (Concurrent Mode with 2 FXEAs)
Details:
 Synchronization used is Optical – LTE System Module (FSMD/E) port OPT IF4 EXT1 is
connected to 2G System Module (ESMB/C) OPT 4/EXT
 Antenna Lines for Main and diversity is connected to single RF Module (FXDA).
 Power for the shared RF Module (FXEA) is supplied by FSMD/FSME being the MASTER.

BTS Software:
 2G BTS SW Version : EX4.2_PP06_BL212_A51_A53
 LTE BTS SW Version : LN3.0_ENB_1103_897_09

BTS Site Manager:

 2G BTS SM Version : EX4.2_PP06_2G_BTS_Site_Manager_BL212
 LTE BTS SM Version : BTSSiteEM_LN3.0_BTSSM_03_00_1333

NOTE: Before configuring the LTE and 2G BTS, the above connections MUST be
satisfied first and that both your BTS are in un-commissioned state. RF Shared optic
ports will assume the first 2 optic ports (Opt1 and Opt2) of the 2g System Module.

For existing sites with 2 FXDAs and 2 FXEAs, we need to free-up opt4/Ext of ESMC for ESMC-FSME
Synchronization. In doing so, we can cascade the 2 FXDAs in Opt3, then use Opt1 and Opt2 for the
shared FXEAs and use the Opt4/Ext for the optic synchronization. Use Opt1 and Opt2 on the FSME
side for consistency of connection.
4. Installation Scenarios of the LTE BTS
4.1 CURRENT STACK CONFIGURATION – LTE System Module will just be added into the
existing stack of 2g & 3g. If the number of modules stacked will be more than 7, a
mandatory bracket will be installed at the top most stacks secured to the wall. The
existing stacking frame load limit is 300KGs so at maximum configurations on 2g/3g/LTE
will have 9 modules (SM & RFM) stacked with a total load of 225KGs. Otherwise, we
have to build separate stack.

4.2 SEPARATE STACK CONFIGURATION – In cases where 2g and 3g have different

stacks, the LTE System Module will just be added into the existing stack of the 2g as
they will share the same Radio Module (FXEA) on the 1800 platform.

4.3 INDEPENDENT STACK CONFIGURATION – In cases where 2g has not been swapped
yet to Multiradio whereby the existing equipment is still ALCATEL, the LTE equipment
will have its own separate stack. In this case, no RF sharing is implemented but will
require a combiner to merge the ALCATEL 1800 and LTE 1800 BANDS.

4.4 DISTRIBUTED CONFIGURATION – In case of existing distributed systems, existing

HW must be verified to establish if we need to add additional FXEA to meet the
requirements. The additional LTE FSME will just be added onto the existing stack in the
shelter then a new run of fiber optics/DC, where needed, will be rigged to establish
connectivity with the FXEAs atop the tower.

5. COMMISSIONING the LTE Flexi Multiradio BTS

NOTE: During this setup, the LTE Flexi Multiradio BTS must be the Master, in
that case it should be commissioned first before commissioning the 2G Flexi
Edge Multiradio BTS.

Define the laptop IP address as shown in the figure below. This will allow you to
interrogate locally the LTE Flexi Multiradio equipment (Same as your 3G
WCDMA).

A 10base-T Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connector is used for connection to the
system module (FSMD/E) LAN port.

Laptop OS should be Windows XP Home/Pro, Vista and Windows 7 (for

Windows 7 & Vista, open the BTS site manager as administrator for it to work).

LTE Flexi BTS Site Manager (BTSSiteEM_LN3.0_BTSSM_03_00_1203) should be

installed in your laptop.

LTE Datafill file is needed for the BTS parameters or at least the XML
configuration file is provided.

Concurrent mode/RF sharing licenses (RL30) MUST be already installed on the

BTS by the ROC/NOC before starting.
Sec3.0 of this document MUST be satisfied.

Perform back up of the existing configuration of the 2g Flexi BTS for fall back
procedure if needed.

IP connectivity tests (Default routing gateway, MME Ip and SGW Ip)

must be done first on the Tellabs Transmission to verify if the End-to-
End connectivity of the pipe. You can use the LTE BTS by downloading the
XML file first into the system module, once the IP parameters are set (after BTS
re-start), IP connectivity tests can commence. Pls see below attachment on
proper IP connectivity testing procedure.

Integration_IP Connectivity Testing Guidelines Ver1.0.docx

6. Launch the BTS Site Manager

Before starting, make sure that the preparations have been made as highlighted
in sec3. The following steps will guide you interrogating the BTS equipment.

Start the Nokia BTS Site Manager by clicking the icon on your desktop. The task
selection view opens as shown below.

1. Enter the Username and Password. The default username is Nemuadmin

and the password is nemuuser.
2. Click connect.

If multiple versions of BTS Site manager are installed on the PC, the appropriate
BTS Site Manager version is selected automatically.

1. Updating the BTS SW

Updating the BTS software is optional. You should do it only if the BTS does not
have the required software version. Follow the steps below.

1. If there is mismatch in the software, a dialog box opens as shown below.

Otherwise you have to go to the update SW to BTS site menu.

2. Select file button to locate the target build of the new SW as shown
below and click open.

3. The SW needed is TargetBD_LN3.0_ENB_1103_897_09.xml

4. Select the activate SW after update check the box to enable the
activation of the new SW in accordance to SW updating. Click the update
button to begin the SW update.

5. Click the close button to close the Update SW to BTS Site dialog box.

6. Check “SW release version: LN3.0 ENB 1103 897 09” is loaded.

Note: This exercise will also update the SW versions of the RF Module:
FXEA. If in any case there is “incompatible SW alarm” just re-load the SW.
Sometimes, the default SW installed is so out-dated that you have to
upgrade the BTS SW first to WN6.0_22.12-159_B before you can upgrade
the SW to the required LTE SW.

Radio 2G System.

1. Files for documentation

Site Information, BTS Snapshot and Speed testing are needed for
documentation submission.

8. COMMISSIONING the 2G Flexi EDGE MULTIRADIO BTS

NOTE: on the 2G BTS, First thing to be done is to run “Undo Commissioning &
remove Traffic Bypass capacity” to ensure all data is cleared from the flash
memory. Before doing so, perform SCF backup of the existing 2g configuration for
reference in the re-commissioning.

Define the laptop IP address as shown in the figure below. This will enable you
to interrogate the 2G Flexi Multi Radio BTS equipment.

Sec3.0 of this document MUST be satisfied.

A new A-bis plan must be provided on the 2g platform to align the TRX
allocations on the shared RF Module (FXEA). It follows that all the TRX
allocations of the shared RF module must all be on the same ASCI
code of the ESMC (ASCI code1 = 1-18TRX, ASCI code2 = 19-36TRX).

9. Launch the 2g Flexi BTS Site Manager

Before starting, make sure that the preparations have been made as highlighted
in sec4. The following steps will guide you interrogating the BTS equipment.

Start the Nokia 2G Flexi BTS Manager by clicking the icon on your desktop. The
task selection view opens as shown below.
8.1 BTS SW Update

The first step of the commissioning is BTS SW Downloading/Update. This is

necessary to align the current SW packet of the BTS with the new release BTS
SW. It starts with selecting the “BTS SW” and followed by “SW update”

BTS SW level to be used is EX4.2_PP0.3_BL198_A51_A53 / BTSM4203.C6X

It is recommended to select the option “Forcé Download” to guarantee the

downloading of all files of the new SW. If we don’t mark this option, only the
changes in between versions will be downloaded (depending on the versions).

Press the “update SW”. The progress bar will help us to follow the process.
Notice that FIREWALL SW running on PC could BLOCK the downloading. When
the Download is finished, The BTS will restart and the PC automatically connect
to the BTS.
Multi Radio BTS doesn’t autodetect un-commissioned radio modules, thats the
reason why only the system module appears on the screen.
Check ‘Force BTS Download All Application Files’

8.2 Perform “Undo Commissioning of BTS”

This will last a few minutes and when finished, the BTS will restart. Notice that
any change in the BTS configuration needs a BTS reset to be effective.
This will last a few minutes and when finished, the BTS will restart. Notice that
any change in the BTS configuration needs a BTS reset to be effective.

NOTE: LTE Commissioning file (XML) is needed to be downloaded into the 2g

Flexi Multiradio BTS.

After restarting, we choose again “commissioning wizard” and then

“Commission manually” to bring you to the Site Specific Information.

8.3 Site Specific Information

Just populate the BCFID of the site, then proceed to the next step. No hyphen
or underscore is used on the site name as this will cause serious errors into the
Flexi BSC.
8.4 Hardware configuration

Choose Specify from file and use

the LTE XML earlier saved and
proceed to the next step.

8.5 Module configuration

Note that OPT1 & 2 is untick and your synchronization is also untick since your
LTE BTS is your master. You can see that the RF modules (FXEA) are already
defined.

If GSM900 is being used, then we need to add new RF chain for FXDA using
OPT3.

Important Note: For existing site configurations on 2g, the FXDA takes the
Opt1 and OPt2 of ESMC/B. Since we need Opt4 as synchronization between
ESMC/B and FSME, we need to reconfigure these 2 FXDA modules to be chained
in OPt1. Then the FXEA will use OPt2 and OPt3 for connections to ESMC and
FSME. OPt4 is used for synchronization between the ESMC and FSME. It follows
also that Opt2 and OPt3 i used in the FSME for consistency.
8.6 Local Sector Settings

Since we have Rx Sharing of FXEA, the máximum allowable Carrier power is

60W. Since LTE BTS uses 40W carrier power already, our 2G 1800 BTS will now
have a máximum of 20W carrier power to be used. It can be 10W depending on
the RF plan. While your FXDA (sector 1,2 &3) will still have a máximum 60W
carrier power since its not shared.
Continue towards the remaining commissioning steps to be configured
according to the Abis plan. You can use the back up SCF as reference in
carrying out the remaining parameters of the BTS on the 900 and 1800. Only
the above steps needs to be changed for the RF sharing to take effect.

8.7 Send SCF to BTS

Once the parameters have been properly populated, Save the SCF before
sending it to the BTS.
Commissioning in Progress

BTS will reset once completed

Local commissioning completed
successfully and ‘O&M Link
Established’
