HORTATORY EXPOSITION TEXT EXERCISE

There are 2 (two) exercises you have to do. Each exercise consists of a
text and three columns. Read the text carefully. Then, fill the blank in
three columns correctly. Before doing the task, observe the example in
order to show you how to do the three exercises properly.

Example:

Cramming is Bad

How do you study when the test is coming? Do you start preparing for the test weeks
or months before the test or leave things to the last hour? If you start studying weeks or
months before the test, it is great. However, if you study all the material in the last hour or
minute, it is not good for you for some reasons and it is called cramming.

Cramming is the situation when students stay up until morning to study before their
test. This habit can lead to negative impacts for some reason. The first reason is that
disruptions in the regular sleep cycle can cause temporary intellectual lapses. For most
students, less sleep can make them could not focus in the class. Additionally, cramming can
leave us with “something that I have seen before” in our memory. However, being able to
recognize something is not the same as being able to recall it.

To sum up, a way to consume caffeine is not a good idea to do cramming because it
gives bad effect to our health.

Arguments:

 Cramming causes the disruptions in the regular sleep cycle so it can cause
temporary intellectual lapses.
 Cramming can leave us with “something that I have seen before” in our memory.

Recommendation:

To sum up, a way to consume caffeine is not a good idea to do cramming because it gives
bad effect to our health.

Why Students Should Manage Their Stress

Stress among student can be caused by interpersonal which includes the


factor like relationships with family and friend or because of the academic
itself. Workload of college, difficult tests, and other academic obstacles may
also lead to stress. Thus, stress among students can be dangerous for several
reasons. Firstly, major negative effect of stress is on emotional health.

Emotional health problem is more dangerous than physical health


problem because it can lead to most disastrous effects of all that is committing
suicide. Emotional or mental health is an expression of our emotions and
signifies a failure adaptation to the range of demands in life. The stressful life
events can lead to all the failure just by conquering our mind. Thus, it is very
important to maintain our mental and emotional health because once our
emotional health was disturbed, it can lead to various of diseases such as
depression, anxiety, emotional eating, anger and so on.

The second disastrous effect of stress to an individual especially students


is on academic performance. Actually, this effect affected students beyond their
thinking. Once they are in stress, they have difficulty to concentrate on their
study and finally their result will ruin because they cannot do well in their
exams. That is how their academic performance shows such negative
improvement from day to day because they cannot manage their stress well.
Therefore, stress can be dangerous to student’s life. For those reasons, it is
better that we should find the causes of stress which we are going through,
know the bad effect that we may face and take actions to manage it.

Why Charged Plastic Bags Policy is not Effective

Charged plastic bags policy which was implemented in 2016 is not


effective to reduce plastic waste because of some reasons. The first reason is
that the cost is very cheap which was IDR200. If we compare it to the cost of
charged plastic bag in Scotland, the cost of charged plastic there is more
expensive than the cost of charged plastic in Indonesia. Besides, the charged
plastic bag policy is only implemented in retail markets, such as Indomaret,
Alfamart, Giant, Hypermart, and many more.

However, the biggest use of plastic bag is in traditional markets. In


traditional markets, the use of plastic bag is 70% while in retail markets is only
30%. Next, the plastic bags that retail markets use are degradable plastic bags.
Almost all retail markets use degradable plastic bags, and almost all the
producers of plastic bag also produce their plastic bags using natural substances.
Indomaret, for example, on their website, stated that they use plastic bag made
of Oxium which is cheap degradable plastic and can be decomposed in only two
years.

Thus, the charged plastic bag policy implementation was stop on October
1st, 2016. In my opinion, it is better if the government re-evaluate this policy to
become more effective by increasing the charge, implementing not only to retail
markets, and implementing policy of using the degradable plastic bag.
