Information Technology has affected the human being almost in all sphere of life whether it is
education, healthcare, business, communication or our day to day tasks. It helps us to gather, handle and
interconnect large volume of data and information. Technically, Information Technology refers to the
development, maintenance, and use of computer software, systems, and networks. It includes their use
for the processing and distribution of data.
Keeping up with latest and greatest information technology trends seems like a never-ending task
nowadays. As technology evolves at such a rapid pace, annual predictions of trends can seem out-of-date
before they even go live as a published blog post or article. Making ourselves aware or mindful of the
technology that is recently becoming popular and is readily accepted in the market or industry is
somehow an imperative. We are living in a world where technology seems to partake greatly, thus, it is
not wrong to consider it as part of our lives. Moreover, these emerging technologies, if used properly, will
eventually provide us efficiency and more effective working environment.
Emerging technologies are technologies whose development, practical applications, or both are
still largely unrealized, such that they are figuratively emerging into prominence from a background of
nonexistence or obscurity. In today’s world, we are currently using emerging technologies from our recent
past. One notable example is the Global Positioning System (GPS). It is in every part of our lives today.
Presently, lots of advancements in technology are emerging and are making its way to soonly affect our
lives.
1. Internet of Things
• The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of interrelated physical computing devices, digital
and mechanical machines, animals, objects, or people that are assigned with unique
identifiers and the ability to exchange data over the network without any human to computer
or human to human interaction.
• It includes a wide variety of “smart” devices, from industrial machines that transmit data
about the production process to sensors that track information about the human body.
• The goal behind the Internet of things is to have devices that self report in real time,
improving efficiency and bringing important information to the surface more quickly than a
system depending on human intervention.
• Artificial intelligence refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are
programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to
any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-
solving.

• AI has been around since 1956 is already widely used. In fact, five out of six Americans use AI
services in one form or another every day, including navigation apps, streaming services,
smartphone personal assistants, ride-sharing apps, home personal assistants, and smart
home devices.
3. Machine Learning
• Machine Learning is a subset of AI. With Machine Learning, computers are programmed to
learn to do something they are not programmed to do. They literally learn by discovering
oatterns and insights from data.
• Machine Learning is rapidly being deployed in ll kinds of industries, creating a huge demand
for skilled professionals.
4. 5G
• 5G is the fifth generation of wireless network technology. The current standard, 4G, increased
data-transfer rates and gave rise to many of the connected devices and services that we rely
on today. Using a high frequency spectrum, small cell antennas, and AI-enabled software, the
5G network will allow up to 100X better throughput, 10X longer battery life, and 1000X larger
data volumes, all while being 10 more reliable. In essence, 5G removes today's network
constraints and makes possible machine-to-machine and human-to-machine experiences
once inconceivable.
5. Blockchain
6. Robotics
• Robotics is the science or study of the technology associated with the design, fabrication,
theory, and application of robots.
• It is automating routine processes by using machines to make businesses faster, less
expensive, and more efficient.
7. Biometrics
• Biometrics is the measurement and statistical analysis of people’s unique physical and
behvioral characteristics. The technology is mainly used for identification and access control.
• There are two main types of biometrics:
✓ Physiological identifiers – relate to the composition of the user being authenticated.
It includes:

▪ Facial recognition
▪ Fingerprints
▪ Finger geometry (the size and position of fingers)
▪ Iris recognition
▪ Vein recognition
▪ Voice recognition
▪ DNA matching
✓ Behavioral identifiers – include the unique ways in which individuals act, including
recognition of typing patterns, walking gait and other gestures.
8. Augmented Reality
9. Cloud Computing
• One of the most talked about concept in information technology is the cloud computing.
It is defined as utilization of computing services i.e. software as well as hardware as a
service over a network. Typically, this network is the internet.
• There are 3 various benefits of cloud computing. These include:
✓ Minimizing the cost of IT infrastructure to a company
✓ Promoting the virtualization concept which can enable storage devices and servers
to be used across different organizations
✓ It makes it easier to maintain hardware and software and there is no need for
installation on each of the end-users computers
• Quantum Computing, still an emerging technology, is one of the most fascinating things
researchers, organizations, and governments have been working on in this century so far.
• Quantum computers use quantum mechanics to solve problems considered impossible
for today's computers. Unlike traditional computers, which use binary bits that can either
be 0s or 1s, quantum computers use quantum bits or "qubits", which can be both at the
same time. By harnessing the quantum properties of superposition and entanglement,
qubits offer exponentially greater computing power than binary bits.
