4 PREPARATION

4.1 General

The davit is equipped with lifting lugs. The weight is approx. 3,2 metric tons. The
remaining loose items, including the control stand, is delivered on a separate pallet. The
weight of this pallet is approx. 100 kg.

NOTE:
ALL WELDING AND MACHINING WORK ON THESE ITEMS AT THE YARD ARE THE
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE YARD. THE SAME APPLIES FOR THE CLASSIFICATION
APPROVAL WORK RELATED TO THE BELOW ITEMS.

4.2 Mounting of TTS Marine ASA Davit

This section sum up what is included for the installation part of the davit.

• This TTS Marine ASA Davit is to be welded directly to the deck or some other
type of support.
• As a minimum requirement (of the various classification organizations) the deck
must be designed to withstand the davits max. bending moment with a 40%
overload.

• Check adjoining welding grooves to obtain an even gap through the

circumference. Also an evenly distributed heat input is required to avoid
distortion.
• The king is already grooved for welding, and the weld must, as a minimum, fill
this groove.
• The flange is obviously more exposed to distortion if the deck stiffeners,
platforms etc. are welded to davit base.

The Guiding Frame

The guiding frame is not installed before delivery. This frame should always be
installed on site for adapting to the MOB boat. Apply a fillet weld of 7 mm.

Control Stand
Install the control stand near the shipside behind (or fore of) the MOB-boat. It is
important that the operator can observe the complete swing out/lowering/hoisting
operation!

Pipes and Hoses

Install the pipes/hoses (yard delivery) between the davit and the control stand.
Pipe/hose dimensions are listed on the hydraulic flow diagram. Connections on king
and control stand are marked with corresponding numbers to simplify the installation.

Electro Motor
Install the electro motor cable to the warning light in accordance with the starter
drawing.
Make sure that the electro motor runs counter-clockwise seen from the cover end.

NOTE:
THE MAIN PUMP WILL BE DAMAGED IF ITS RUN CLOCKWISE. IF MOTOR IS
ROTATING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION, INTERCHANGE 2 PHASES AND CHECK
AGAIN.

Oil Tank
Fill the oil tank to the correct level (middle of the gauge) and check the oil level on the
winch gear.

4.3 Pre-Testing

Operate the davit with no load. Check for leaks. Tighten any leaking connections, if
any.

Hang the MOB boat in the davit and swing it to its parked position. Fit the parking
frame to the outer jib so that it provides good support to the MOB-boat.

A guide has to be installed between the deck edge and the parking frame as shown on
the GA-drawing. It is also important that the davit and MOB boat is secured to the ship
structure by means of the lashing.

4.4 Testing

Finally the davit is tested with 10% overload (3,52 metric tons). Use test loads or add
water/sand bags in the MOB boat to reach the prescribed load. Normally an approved
surveyor from, or on behalf of, the certifying authority should be present during the
tests.

The following tests are required:

• Complete function test
• Dynamic brake test (1,1 x SWL)
• Test of the emergency system with SWL (3,2 tons)

It may be necessary to break the plumb on the main relief valve to lift the test load.
The plumb has to be reinstalled after the overload test (pressure adjusted back to
approx.. See the chapter 2) See the chapter ”Operating Instructions” for testing the
emergency system.

4.5 Prior to Starting the davit

1. Check that all hydraulic connections are in accordance with the hydraulic
diagram.

2. Check that all hydraulic connections are tightened up firmly.

3. Check that all bolts are tightened with correct torque.

4. Check that all electrical connections are in accordance with the starter drawing.

5. It is of outmost importance that only pure clean oil is used. Under no conditions
must water, dirt or other foreign matter enter the tank. Impurities and moisture
will drastically reduce the efficiency and life span of the hydraulic system.

6. The davit has been operated and tested at our works prior to delivery. However,
improper storage and handling during transport may result in oil leakage.

Therefore, check the oil level and top up if necessary, making sure to use an
approved oil. (See the lubrication chart under the Chapter Maintenance).

All pressure control valves have been adjusted by the manufacturer and must not be
altered.

NOTE:
ROTATION OF THE EL. MOTOR IS CCW (COUNTER CLOCKWISE) SEEN FROM
FAN END (REF. ARROW-SIGN).
