Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science7 Physics

This lesson plan outlines a 1-hour science class on heat transfer. Students will define the three mechanisms of heat transfer - conduction, convection, and radiation - and demonstrate how heat travels through the three phases of matter and through space. The class will involve a pre-assessment quiz, group activities demonstrating each type of heat transfer using materials like candles and dye, and a post-assessment test. The goal is for students to understand and appreciate how heat is transferred in specific examples and situations.

Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan for Science 7

3rd Quarter (Physics)

Date: March 24, 2021

Time Frame: 1 Hour

I. Learning Competency
MELC CODE: S7LT-IIIh-i-12
Infer the conditions necessary for heat transfer to occur.

Objectives

At the end of the session, the learners will be able to:

A. Define the three mechanisms of heat transfer.

B. Prove that heat travels in all three fundamental phases of matter and space.
C. Appreciate each type of heat transfer happening in a specific example.

I. Content
The learners demonstrate an understanding of how heat is transferred.

II. Learning Resources

Topic: HEAT TRANSFER
Reference: Science Learner’s module for grade 7, Quarter 3, Science Teacher’s Guide
for grade 7, Quarter 3, pages 233-248

Materials: PPT presentation, projector, laptop, activity sheets, candle, matches, fork,
piece of cloth, beaker, tripod, green dye, denatured alcohol, lamp, metal basin, manila
paper, and marker.
Valued Integrated: cooperation and unity
Subject Integration: ICT, MAPEH, TLE, English, ARPAN,
III. Inquiry-Based Learning Procedure

Materials/Assessment
Tools
Before the Lesson
1. Elicit
Learners will be asked these questions:
a. Why do we use potholders when we are cooking? MAPEH Integration
b. Why do you feel warm when you walk under the sun? TLE integration
c. How do you think the heat from the sun reaches you?
During the Lesson
2. Engage
Learners will play 4 pics1 word and they will be group into two. Photos shown are related
to the topic HEAT TRANSFER. Each group will have a representative to answer the
word puzzle, 1 representative 1 word puzzle to be answered. The group that gains more
points will be the winner.

English Integration
3. Explore
a. Pre-Activity discussion: introduce the topic Heat Transfer. Remind learners
that heat transfer occurs every time.

b. Let the learners perform the activity. The activity should make the learners
realize that heat can transfer in solid-liquid-gas vice-versa and even in space.

c. The learners will be divided into three groups. Each group will perform its
task following a set of instructions on the activity sheets.

d. Learners will be guided by the presented RUBRIC

e. Learners should always follow precautionary measures as our main material

is with the use of fire.
Group A – Table 1
prepare a candle, a small piece of cloth, a spoon, and matches.
Group B – Table 2
prepare a beaker, tripod, lamp, green dye, and matches.
Group C – Table 3
prepare a metal basin, crumpled paper, and matches.

4. Explain
a. Each group will present their laboratory report. After the report, the teacher
will give inputs on important concepts missed by the students. The teacher
will also give feedback on their laboratory activity group performance.

5. Elaborate
a. The teacher will give a brief discussion based on the learners’ activity.
Activity 1 – CONDUCTION
Activity 2 – CONVECTION
Activity 3 – RADIATION
(farmers rely on sunlight but when the heat of the sun is too much, it also ARPAN integration
destroys the livelihood of others)

6. Evaluate
Learners will be given a 5 item test
Encircle the letter of the correct answer.
1. What method of heat transfer that heat energy reaches the Earth from the
Sun?
a. Radiation
b. Insulation
c. Conduction
d. Convection
2. Because of heat, we produce different needs in our daily lives especially
food. In what method of heat transfer does frying of fish occur?
a. Radiation
b. Insulation
c. Conduction
d. Convection
3. When the pan is heated. The particles of the pan are also heated, these
particles in turn transfer the heat to the next particle until the whole pan has
the same heat. What method of heat transfer does it belong to?
a. Radiation
b. Insulation
c. Conduction
d. Convection

4. Which of the following is not a method of heat transfer?

a. Radiation
b. Insulation
c. Conduction
d. Convection
5. Which of these statements is correct?
a. The conduction method only occurs in the solid phase of matter.
b. The convection method only occurs in the liquid and gas phases of
matter.
c. The radiation method uses wave energy to transfer heat.
d. All of the above.
After the Lesson
7. Extend
a. The learners will read and investigate the given statements by
identifying what method of heat transfer is described.
b. Assignment
In a ½ crosswise, explain how heat travels from the fire to a frying
pan, then the cooking oil, and then to the fish being cooked.
