Automatic Sanitizer Dispenser Using Scotch Yoke Mechanism

This document describes the design of an automatic sanitizer dispenser using a scotch yoke mechanism. It identifies the problem of virus spreading through contact with shared sanitizer bottles. The objectives are to create a fully automatic and contactless dispenser. It then details the methodology, individual parts, assembly, and design calculations for components like the disc and pin. The results show that the scotch yoke mechanism allows for automatic dispensing without touching to prevent virus spreading. In conclusion, the low-cost device promotes hand hygiene and reduces virus transmission.

INTRODUCTION

• Contactless technology is the need in this COVID-19 pandemic.

• Corona virus spreads when an infected person comes in contact with other people and this chain
continues.
• Although sanitizers help by preventing the spread of this virus, there is always a risk when the same
bottle is touched by an infected person as well as other people.
• So in this case any mechanism that may help to avoid hand contact with the sanitizer bottle and at the
same time is cheap and durable would be helpful.
• The machine is totally hands free, hence preventing the spreading of germs, viruses through touch.
• This invention thus prevents spreading of the virus due to its complete hand free operation.

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION, DEFINITION AND
OBJECTIVES
Problems identification:
• Spreading of Corona virus through hand sanitizer when many people uses hand to operate the same
dispenser.

Problem definition and objective:

• Fully automatic and contactless.

• Many people can be used simultaneously without touching.
• Easy to setup at any places with less cost.

METHODOLOGY

• The design of the project consists of a Disc which is connected with a yoke provided with a slot at the
center, with the help of a pin.
• The alternative mechanisms which results in the same purpose and then as the advantages of Scotch
Yoke mechanism out-weighed all the other mechanisms, Scotch Yoke mechanism is selected.
• The general layout of the configuration is prepared and the methods of joining the individual
components are selected.
• The detailed drawing is generated and is assembled properly.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

• We have focused on scotch yoke mechanism to operate Sanitizer Dispenser.

• Through this experiment we made hands-free Sanitizer Dispenser which can be operated automatically
and it is cost effective, portable and can be placed in a cramped up places.
• Finally as a result we obtained automatic dispensing machine which operates mechanically and made
user friendly. And though we can reduce the spreading of virus.

CONCLUSION

• Due to the low manufacturing and production cost of this product, It is easily affordable by owners of
huge industries as well as by small shopkeepers.
• Many manufacturing factories will start producing these machines as they can be completely from
other industrial wastes, benefitting the factories.
• These dispensers increase the awareness about hand hygiene among people and also contribute in
creating a healthy environment for all.
• The use of these automatic sanitizer dispensers will surely help in reducing the number of positive
cases.
