In Line Roller Cam

1. The document provides instructions for drawing a displacement diagram and cam profile for an inline roller follower that provides constant velocity motion over four segments: an outstroke, dwell, return stroke, and final dwell. 2. The displacement diagram is drawn with the motion segmented and points labeled, then the base circle and guiding lines are added. 3. Each point from the displacement diagram is projected vertically and translated to the corresponding angle on the base circle to form the cam profile.

PROCEDURE:

1. DRAW THE DISPLACEMENT DIAGRAM

DRAW THE DIAGRAM WITH THE SCALE
PROVIDED INLINE ROLLER FOLLOWER DISPLACEMENT DIAGRAM
2. DRAW EACH SEGMENT OF THE MOTION
SEGMENT 1: RISE TO LIFT OF 2CM IN 60°
DIVIDE SEGMENT 1 INTO 6 EQUAL DIVISIONS.
DRAW STRAIGHT LINE FROM INITIAL TO FINAL
POINT OF THE SEGMENT 1 TO CONSTRUCT THE g g
CONSTANT VELOCITY RISE. THEN LABEL POINTS

OF INTERSECTION BY "a" TO "g".
e i
SEGMENT 2: DWELL OF 1CM IN 30°
DRAW STRAIGHT HORIZONTAL LINE FROM d j
LAST POSITION TO THE FINAL POINT OF THE
40mm
SEGMENT. SAME LABEL THE INTERSECTION "g" c k

DIVIDE SEGMENT 1 INTO 6 EQUAL DIVISIONS.
DRAW STRAIGHT LINE FROM INITIAL TO FINAL g
POINT OF THE SEGMENT TO CONSTRUCT THE
CONSTANT VELOCITY RISE. THEN LABEL POINTS 60° 30° 60° 210°
OF INTERSECTION BY "g" TO "m".
OUTSTROKE DWELL RETURN DWELL
SEGMENT 4: DWELL IN 210° (TO COMPLETE 1REV) STROKE
DRAW STRAIGHT HORIZONTAL LINE FROM
LAST POSITION "m" TO THE FINAL POINT OF THE
SEGMENT. LABEL THE LAST POINT "m". SCALE OF THE DISPLACEMENT DIAGRAM :
CAM ANGLE: 10mm = 30°
3. PREPARE THE BASE CIRCLE OF THE CAM.
FOLLOWER DISPLACEMENT: 1cm = 1cm
DRAW THE BASE CIRCLE WITH A RADIUS OF DIMENSION OF DISPLACEMENT DIAGRAM:
4cm NEAR TO THE DIAGRAM. DIVIDE THE CIRCLE STROKE, H = 40mm
ACCORDING TO THE DIVISIONS IN THE g

DISPLACEMENT DIAGRAM. DRAW THE GUIDING
LINES FOR EACH ANGULAR DIVISION.

4. TRANSLATE THE DISPLACEMENT INTO THE
CAM PROFILE.
a. DRAW THE ROLLER FOLLOWER PARALLEL i
TO THE Y-AXIS OF DISPLACEMENT DIAGRAM.
b. DRAW VERTICAL LINE PASSING THROUGH j
IT AND THE CENTER OF CAM CENTER.
c. PROJECT EACH POINT OF THE k
PRIME CIRCLE: R50mm l m
DISPLACEMENT TO THE VERTICAL LINE AND
EXTEND IT USING ARCS CONCENTRIC TO THE
BASE CIRCLE .
d. TRANSLATE EACH POINT IN THE VERTICAL
LINE TO THE CORRESPONDING ANGULAR BASE CIRCLE: R40mm
DIVISION MADE IN THE BASE CIRCLE.
e. LABEL EACH POINT WITH THE LABELS USED
IN THE DISPLACEMENT DIAGRAM
CAM PROFILE
5. TRACE THE CAM PROFILE
DRAW EACH ROLLER ON THE POINTS. THEN,
DRAW LINE TANGENTIAL TO THE BOTTOM OF PITCH CIRCLE
THE CIRCLES REPRESENTING THE ROLLER.
DRAW THE CAM PROFILE

PROBLEM: A CAM IS TO GIVE THE FOLLOWING MOTION TO A ROLLER FOLLOWER: NAME: PLATE 2:
1. OUTSTROKE DURING 60° OF CAM ROTATION 3. RETURN STROKE DURING NEXT 60° OF CAM ROTATION ANDREZA, LEMUEL V. INLINE ROLLER FOLLOWER WITH
CONSTANT VELOCITY
2. DWELL FOR THE NEXT 30° OF CAM ROTATION 4. DWELL FOR THE REMAINING 210° OF CAM ROTATION
PROFESSOR: DATE SUBMITTED:
THE STROKE OF THE FOLLOWER IS 40 mm AND THE MINIMUM RADIUS OF THE CAM IS 40 mm. THE ROLLER RADIUS IS 10 mm. THE ROLLER
FOLLOWER MOVES WITH UNIFORM VELOCITY DURING BOTH THE OUTSTROKE AND RETURN STROKES. ENGR. RODELIO PADRIQUE APRIL 12, 2021
