Reinforcement for Star Diagnosis compact 4

HMS 990 USB Measurement Technology is the ideal enhancement for the diagnosis capabilities
of Star Diagnosis compact4. The combination of these two powerful devices allows service
technicians to thoroughly check a vehicle in every detail. HMS 990 USB Measurement
Technology can be used immediately on Star Diagnosis compact4 without any additional
hardware installation. One great advantage is the direct link between the diagnosis applications
Xentry Diagnostics (from model series 204) and DAS and the Measurement Technology
software. If required, the universal oscilloscope can be called up directly from the diagnosis test
procedure. Here, the measurement channel parameters are preset and a pass image is
displayed.

Extensive measuring options – The electrical system

Service technicians can carry out a wide range of measurements on the vehicle’s electrical
system. Various voltages, ignition and dwell angles – all the essential values can checked. The
equipment can even be used to check whether all the alternator values are OK. The multimeter
provides the opportunity to accurately check the basic electrical parameters such as voltage,
current, resistance, frequency, temperature, and pressure. With this range of capabilities, the
service technician always has a grip on that most sensitive vehicle component – the electrical
system.

Thorough examination

The ignition rating must always be adjusted perfectly for the engine to give its best performance.
HMS 990 USB Measurement Technology offers the service technician many means for checking
the ignition ratings and to indicate variances. Service technicians can thus take the results of
measurements as their basis for assessing whether the data displayed is OK, or whether it has to
be corrected.
 Are things running smoothly ? -- Analysis
of individual cylinders

Is the engine running as it should ? HMS 990 USB

Measurement Technology makes it possible to check
the duration of combustion by analyzing individual
cylinders. Compression and rotational speed are also
always in check. The service technician is
immediately notified of deviations from the specified
values.

Signal measurements with oscilloscopes

Service technicians use the universal oscilloscope and the 12-channel oscilloscope to measure
various signals such as those from the crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft Hall sensor.
Recording can extend over several minutes. The service technician can store the measurements
taken with the recorder function and retrieve them at a later point. HMS 990 USB Measurement
Technology also offers numerous possibilities for the evalulation of the values measured.

Software-Release 5.0.0

Overview
To meet the current requirements on vehicle diagnosis, additional functionalities have been added to the software for the HMS
990 USB measurement technology. These innovations enable the service personnel to an easier assessment of complex signals
and the technical hotline is given better possibilities to support and solve problems.
All the new functionalities will be explained to the user during the guided test. No special training is therefore necessary.
The software release 5.0.0 is available in the markets since Star Diagnosis Update 11/09.

Signal measurement
With the new software release, amplitudes and Signal measurement
times can be measured directly including Delta measurement
automatic conversion to frequency. In addition,
all signals can be analyzed with a freely
