Assignment # 1: Mechanics I Course: Due: Nov. 4, 2020 (Please Submit During Class)

This 1-page assignment for a Mechanics I course contains two physics problems to solve regarding forces on objects. Problem 1 asks students to determine the minimum angle of a cable attached to a log to direct the net force of 10 kN along the x-axis. Problem 2 asks students to find the magnitude and direction angles of the net force on a sign from two applied forces. Students are to show their work and submit their response by November 4th, 2020 during class in 1 page or less.

Assignment # 1: Mechanics I course

Due: Nov. 4, 2020 (Please submit during class)

Show your work, and the submission should not exceed 1-page front and back

Problem 1
If the resultant FR of the two forces acting on the log is to be directed along the positive x-axis and
have a magnitude of 10 kN, determine the angle θ of the cable, attached to B such that the force
FB in this cable is minimum. What is the magnitude of the force in each cable for this situation?

Problem 2
Determine the magnitude and coordinate direction angles of the resultant force of the two forces
acting on the sign at point A.
