Procedure For Well Testing
Procedure For Well Testing
PURPOSE
To establish safety guidelines and best recommended practices during well testing operations onboard Rig
Mist
GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES:
General pre-job meeting with all concerned persons before starting the job and prior to any specific
operation.
Perform fire or gas drill 24 hours prior to start well testing operation.
Supply Vessel should be in the area and contacted before beginning flaring operation. Minimum one
Supply vessel to be on standby at location during flowback operations.
There will be no Hot Work activity during well testing operations.
Only ONE PTW is allowed during flowback in either Port or Stbd flare boom. If for any reason that a
switch is required to the opposite side another new PTW is required to be raised and approved by OIM
& DSV before opening the well again.
Diesel transfers to any unit should be planned between flaring operation and agreed by OIM, DSV and
Barge Captain.
No servicing of primary safety equipment is authorized during the flaring operation.
Crane loads over well testing equipment are strictly prohibited during flaring operation or if
equipment/line is pressurized.
First flaring operation only during Daylight Hours, after that flaring during night time is allowed unless
flowlines has been disconnected.
Rig floor, main deck, cantilever deck and flare boom area (Port & Stbd aft) should be clear of non-
essential personnel.
All access to accommodation must be kept closed during the flaring duration.
During pressure testing, all affected areas will be barricaded and no crossing to platform is allowed;
except for essential personnel involved with well testing operations.
During heavy weather/squall, water curtain may be disrupted. Should this happen shut-in of well is
required.
Wind direction will need to be closely/continuously monitored.
Prior to commencing the flowing of the well, a PA announcement will be made.
Maintain good radio and/or phone communications between the different areas involved (all
communication means to be tested prior flaring operation start). Ensure batteries charging stations are
working and Radio batteries are maintained & kept charged.
A qualified person will be stationed at the platform nearby the Xmas tree during flowing to monitor if
any leak occurred. The personnel will have a handheld Radio to communicate with the driller.
Well testing personnel will install 4 ESD button; 1 at the wellhead area, 1 at the driller’s cabin, 1 at the
gangway & 1 at the L/B Primary Muster Station area. The ESD will close a valve upstream of the choke
manifold.
Well clean-up operation will be suspended in case the water curtain system is down.
Well clean-up operation will also be suspended if more than 500 BTU/hr/sqft of heat is measured at
the handrail of the maindeck.
Well to be immediately shut-in if any of the following is observed;
no water screen
potential leaks found
no presence of wind
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
TITUS to supply additional gas detector.
Locations of ESDs to be identified: driller’s console, platform, well test area, starboard life boat /
accommodation.
CAMERON personnel (2 pax) are required to monitor wellhead during flowback. TR-SCSSV to be
controlled/operated by Deleum slickline control panel. The control panel has to be located on the
platform. It is mandatory for both personnel to have a Radio each at all time during the well test
operations.
Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus to be made available at well head area.
Prior to well testing operations, surge tank level indicator alarm to be tested.
TITUS to supply Six (6) Radios.
TITUS to ensure that the heat is tracked accordingly and recorded into the log sheet.
It is the responsibility of the 3rd party well test representative to generate a work permit prior to any
flowing of the well to surface. The pre-flowing checklist must be completed by Rig person in charge
(PIC) of each area along with 3rd party well test representative. Only upon completion of all pre-flowing
checklists the OIM & DSV will sign the permit and allow flow to start.
Note: Checklists for each concerned departments are inserted below (attachments #1 and #2). They should
be attached to the PTW prior approval from OIM and DSV when completed before starting well-testing
operation.
