The Scuttlebug program is to support Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services for the SMB market. Voice over Internet
Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows voice calls to be made using a broadband internet connection instead of a
regular (or analogue) telephone line. Users of VoIP are able to make calls from IP telephones, analogue telephones via an
Analogue Telephone Adaptor (ATA), and from their PC via a software client. Calls can be VoIP<->VoIP or VoIP<->PSTN
and include local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. The advantages of VoIP communications services
include lower cost of communications, more innovative services and features, greater economic productivity and growth,
expanded network redundancy and resiliency, and enhanced consumer choice.

The Billing module provides convergent billing solutions spanning different industries (Telecom, IP, Cable etc.) and
technologies (GSM, GPRS, CDMA, AMPS, Fixed Line, VOIP, and Cable TV etc.). It generates a single bill with
all the charge details of the services availed. Bill Generation: calculates and produces invoices for customers. Bill
Posting: Bill posting posts the billing data into Accounts and Payments tables. It is an irreversible process Bill
Printing: Bill printing is a highly parameterized process. It generates files as per a service provider’s bill layouts,
which are then printed by third party printing software.

Credit and Fraud Control is an enormously important facility for Service Providers (Telephony, Cable TV, IP) today,
as the “payment control process” is one of the most important factors that contribute towards the company’s
profitability. Credit Control refers to the functionality of credit exposure via what is referred to as ‘Credit Checking’
and also includes the functionality to set in motion a variety of Dunning (debt collection) Procedures or ‘Actions’
to be taken against customers once their bills fall into arrears. Unicorn deals with the above functionality through
Credit Control Module.

Whenever a telephone call spans more than one network an interconnection takes place. The operator whose subscriber
made the call must compensate the other operators for carrying or completing this call. To achieve this companies maintain
access agreements that allow such interconnection to take place. These agreements contain pricing and revenue sharing
information and restrictions that might have been imposed by the government. It is very important that these interconnect
calls be rated and billed accurately.
