Essay: Is AI dangerous or beneficial for humans?

The base for AI was laid down as early as in the Ancient Greek Era when Aristotle started his
study of logics. This is something that may come as a surprise to many people as the concept of
AI revolves around the fact that it is something newly invented and pacing its development. But
the history of logic has shown that AI dates back to two millenniums. So, a question that must
have popped up in everyone’s mind is why is something that has been developing for a long time
abruptly a threat to human existence. Why a field that works towards ease and convenience of
humans considered dangerous? A common misconception about AI generates these questions.
This essay will discuss the benefits of AI, the misconceptions about it and how these questions
can be cleared.

AI has benefited humankind in numerous ways. They are used in industries and hospitals where
they perform laborious tasks. They are used in security systems and provide a safer system for
things like passwords, locks, etc. Moreover, their uses extend to fields like navigation where they
forecast weather with the help of satellites as well as military where it is used to develop
advanced machineries. AI assists in our daily lives too, whether we are checking our emails or
using voice assistants to know who won last night’s football match, AI has a major role to play.

However, there are some misconceptions about AI. The idea of robots someday taking over the
world is creating this fear that is not purely based on facts. It is believed by some people that
robots are able to self-learn. This is not true as robots can only learn and perform the algorithms
designed for them. In like manner, AI and the human brain do not function in a similar way. AI
lacks creativity, emotions and feelings unlike the human brain. Even though the concept of
‘Cognitive AI’ is based on a technology that can mimic the human brain and solve problems, it
still cannot understand and solve complex problems the way humans can. Such misconceptions
should be cleared to understand AI better.

These misconceptions act as a barrier to getting to understand AI in a more advantageous way.


For a better understanding of AI, it should be taught in school. This is helpful as AI is a sector
that has growing employment opportunities every day. Not only will it aid in a better
understanding of the subject, but also in providing jobs for the future. Uses and advantages of AI
should be promoted in schools, workplaces and at home as well. This will ensure that people
understand and use AI technology in a beneficial way and clear their misconceptions.

In conclusion, AI has a lot of benefits. It powers programs and services that help us make our
daily works easy and efficient. It has been the innovator of many machines and technologies that
we get to see today. It has also provided jobs to people in the sector of AI. It is a source for
entertainment and education. It can do laborious jobs for a long time as well as repetitive and
time-consuming tasks. If we understand its benefits and improve our concept of AI as a whole, it
will allow AI to advance further in the future.
