1. Random samples of size n were selected from populations with mean and variances given here.
Find the mean and standard deviation of the sampling distribution of the sample mean in each
case:
3. Mr. Aizad, an auditor in a credit card company, knows that in average a client has the balance
in the account is RM 112 and standard deviation is RM 56. If he audited 50 accounts which he
selected by random, what is the probability that the average balance in a month is below RM
100?
4. The mean and standard deviation of the time needed for a bus express driver to finish a two-
ways journey through route A route B are 80 minutes and 3 minutes, and 75 minutes and
2 minutes respectively. If 40 journeys are randomly selected for route A and 50 journeys for
route B, find the probability difference between two mean for route A and B is at least
6 minutes.

5. Newspaper reported that the average annual salaries for government employee were
RM50,500 in Kuala Lumpur and RM47,500 in Kelantan with standard deviation of RM7,000 and
RM1,000 respectively in 2001. Suppose that a random sample of 250 government
employees from Kuala Lumpur and 200 government employees from Kelantan were selected,
what is the probability that the difference between the average salaries for government
employees in Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan is between RM2,500 and RM3,500?
6. Random samples of size n were selected from binomial populations with population
parameters p given here. Find the mean and standard deviation of the sampling distribution
of the sample proportion in each case:
(a) 𝑛 = 100, 𝑝 = 0.3
(b 𝑛 = 400, 𝑝 = 0.1
(c) 𝑛 = 250, 𝑝 = 0.6
7. Suppose that 60% of the students who attend a lecture class did not understand about 70% of
their lecture. If 36 students are selected at random, find the probability that more than 50% of
the students cannot understand about 70% of their lecture.
8. An experiment consists of rolling a fair die 100 times. If this experiment is repeated, what is
the sampling distribution of the proportion of the 100 tosses that land with one spot in the top
face?
9. Kuala Lumpur city council is planning to build a gigantic solar-power plant. A local newspaper
reported that 19% of voters in the city do not favor the construction of this plant. Assume that
this result holds true for the population of all voters in this city, and that a random sample of
100 voters is selected;
(a) Does the distribution of voters who do not favor the construction of this plan have
an approximate normal distribution? If so, what is its mean and standard deviation?
(b) What is the probability that more than 25% of the voters in the sample do not favor
the construction of this plan?
(c) What is the probability that 25% to 30% of the voters in the sample do not favor the
construction of this plan?
(d) What might you conclude about if the voters in the sample who do not favor the
construction of this plan exceeded 30%?

10. From a survey, 16% of the pilots are qualified to fly an aircraft in zone A and 9% of the pilots are qualified
to fly an aircraft in zone B, are having luxury cars. If 100 pilots are selected randomly from each zone,
(e) What is the mean and standard deviation for the sampling distribution for the difference between these
sample proportions?
