IoT-Based Smart Basket Abstract

This document proposes an IoT-based smart shopping basket that uses computer vision and machine learning to simplify the shopping experience. The smart basket is equipped with a Raspberry Pi camera to scan items, add their values to the running total, and suggest complementary items based on the customer's purchases. When shopping is complete, the total bill amount is sent via SMS to the customer's phone, allowing them to pay without waiting in line. The project is divided into three modules: a scanning module using the Raspberry Pi camera, a related item suggestion module using machine learning algorithms, and a bill SMS module using GSM technology to send the payment details to the customer's mobile phone.

IoT – Based Smart With Basket

Abstract
Introduction:
With the fast moving lives, the customers neither have time to stand in long
queues nor wait for long time at a shop to do shopping. As the technology is
developing and seeing new inventions in various fields including Machine
Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Internet Of Things and so on, there is an
increase in the expectations in the customer’s point of view. Customers are
now expecting things to be done instantly.

In our project, we are presenting a smart way of shopping using an IOT based
shopping basket. In the traditional way, when a customer enters the shopping
mall, they will start picking their desired items, place them into the basket and
wait in the queue to get their items billed. This process takes more time if
there are more customers at the bill counter. The Objective of the Project is to
reduce this waiting time and to simplify the billing process. The basket which is
used in the malls is redesigned in such a way that it is embedded with an IOT
kit.

The IOT kit consists of Raspberry Pi Camera for recognition of item and to
retrieve its Information. Whenever an item is captured its value it added to the
total value items inside the basket. In addition to this we are going to
implement Machine learning techniques to make the shopping experience
more Unique. Using Algorithms like clustering, Market Basket analysis etc we
will display the complementary and supplementary items location in the mall.
It also has a feature of generating the bill amount to the mobile phone of user.

Existing System:
This kind of basket is already in implementation at foreign countries.
Many of the malls are migrating to this system.

 Richard Southern at California uses a Smart basket with Auto-pilot.

Proposed System:
Already existing systems are using Scanners and RFID Tags. But here the
implementation is different as Raspberry Pi Camera is used and also due to adding
on features like generation of bill to mobile and Similar item Suggestion.
Modules:
The entire project can be divided into three main modules.

Module 1: Scanning Module

This module mainly consists of the scanning part. This is done by using
Raspberry pi Camera. The item is recognized using the camera and the data of item
is stored into the database. The values in database can be used at the end while
billing. The customer can directly pay the amount without waiting for a long time.

Module 2: Related Item Suggestion Module

This module consists of frequently bought items, supplementary and
Complimentary item suggestions. This is done once an item is scanned and put into
the cart. Based on ML algorithms and Techniques (like MBA, Clustering etc.) these
items are predicted. The item location i.e the rack number at which item is present
is displayed on the LCD display.

Module 3: Bill SMS Module

This module consists of sending the bill to the customer so that he can pay
through mobile. This is done using GSM technology. Once the bill is generated it is
sent to customer mobile using a SIM that is already integrated with the IOT kit.

Requirements:
 Hardware Used:
 Raspberry Pi 4 2GB ram
 Raspberry Pi 4 Case Enclosure Official Red & White
 Raspberry Pi official charger
 Raspberry Pi 8MP Camera Module V2
 Camera module CSI connector cable strip
 LED Screen
 Buzzer
 Micro SD Card 16GB-class 10
 Arduino Nano
 Sim 900a GSM module
 LM 2596 voltage regulator
 Jumper wires and soldering material and connectors
 Push buttons
 16x2 LCD display
 Software Used:
 Raspberry Pi Board with Raspbian OS
 OPEN CV
 Image Recognition and Processing
 Arduino IDE
 GSM Technology

Conclusion:
This project has a more scope in the future as this reduces the time of
shopping. The billing process is simplified that reduces burden for cashier.
Payment can be done in different modes such as payment through mobile, Pay
in Cash or by Credit or Debit card. The item suggestion makes customer to find
items easily. Customer enjoys this way of simplified shopping.
