The Parliament is the body of people’s representatives who have Supreme power in a democracy. With
reference to the Union Legislature answer the following:
(a) How are the members of the Rajya Sabha elected? [3]
(b) Why is it called a Permanent house? [3]
(c) State any two Financial and any two Legislative powers of the Indian Parliament. [4]

With reference to the Indian Parliament, explain the following:
(a) The tenure of the members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. [2]
(b) The composition of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. [4]
(c) It’s powers to make laws on subjects mentioned in the
(i) Union List (ii) Concurrent List. [4]
Question 5.
The President of India is a nominal and constitutional head of the nation. In this context answer the
following questions:
(a) Why is the President of India referred to as a nominal head of the State ? State two examples of his
legislative powers that suggest his nominal status. [3]
(b) Mention the circumstances when the President can declare a FINANCIAL emergency. And what are the
effects of it? [3]
(c) Explain the Discretionary powers of the President. [4]

Question 6:
From 1905 to 1918, there emerged a new and a younger group of leaders within the Congress
who did not agree with the old leadership. In this context, answer the following questions:
(a) Differentiate between the Moderates and the Radical nationalists in their objectives and
achievements, stating one objective and two achievements of each wing of the Congress. [3]
(b) Name the radical leader known as the forerunner of Gandhiji. Why is the person known as the
forerunner of Gandhiji? [3]
(c) Explain how the Repressive policies of Lord Curzon and influence of International events led to
Radical nationalism. [4]

Question 7:
The formation of the Muslim League and the Home Rule Movement had a wholesome effect on
the affairs of the country. In this context mention:
(a) Three factors leading to the formation of the Muslim League. [3]
(b) Any three aims of the Muslim League. [3]
(c) Two terms of the Lucknow Pact and two factors which emphasize the significance of the Home
Rule Movement. [4]

Question 8:
The establishment of the Indian National Congress led to the development of the National
Movement in India. In this context answer the following:
(a) When was the Indian National Congress established ? Who presided over its first session? [2]
(b) What were the four aims of the Congress ? [4]
(c) Mention four basic beliefs of the Early Nationalists. [4]

Question 9.
Numerous causes gave rise to the First War of Independence and its consequences led to
several changes in the British Government in India. In this context, answer the following:
(a) Explain any three political causes of the Revolt of 1857. [3]
(b) Briefly explain the immediate cause of the Great Revolt. [3]
(c) State any four changes in the administration of the British Government as a consequence of the
Revolt. [4]
