nationalistic sensibilities.

Reasons for leaving:

Rizal left the Philippines as a part of a secret pact with Paciano.

Rizal’s life abroad:
1. Only few people were aware of Rizal’s departure.

2. Rizal’s trip was primarily funded by Paciano.

3. He had problems in paying for the rent.

4. He experienced skipping meals and eating tuyo.

5. He was able to stablish connections that facilitated the campaign


for reforms.
