Quarter 3, Week 5
I. Objectives:
A. Most Essential Learning Competency:
a. Use Appropriate Cohesive Devices in Various Text Types (No code)
B. Learning objectives:
Towards the end of the lesson the students are able to;
a. Define cohesion and cohesive devices;
b. Identify a cohesive device in a text.
c. Use appropriate cohesive device in a video spiel, picture caption, and a
comic meme.

III. Procedure
A. Introduction
 The teacher presents the MELC (most essential learning competency)
and the learning objectives using a video presentation.
 The teacher will be giving a quick review about the previous lesson.
B. Motivation
 Activity 1: Just Imagine! The teacher will introduce to the students
the idea about using signals and connecting that is related to the
lesson, cohesion and cohesive devices.
After letting them do the activity, the teacher will ask the following
processing question:
1. Was it easy for you to get through the maze?
2. What was the thing you needed in order to do the activity?
C. Discussion
 Using the first activity, the teacher will introduce the lesson about
cohesion and cohesive devices and will guide them to analyze the
examples and use of the topic presented.
 The teacher will present cohesive devices and gives varied examples
for better understanding.
Types of Cohesive Devices
a. Conjunctions
1. Coordinating Conjunctions
2. Subordinating Conjunctions
3. Correlative Conjunctions
b. Pronouns
c. Prepositions
d. Adverbs
e. Ellipsis
D. Values Integration
 The teacher will give an idea on how important it is to know how to
read traffic signs in order to know which way to go, and always go on
looking forward.
E. Application
Activity 2: Underline! Students will read each item and identify the
transition word used in each sentence.
F. Generalization
Cohesive device is essential in speech and writing because they can
improve cohesion between the different parts of the text and enable you
to connect sentences or ideas without sounding awkward.
IV. Evaluation
Activity 3: Differentiated Task!
For the Vloggers:
Create a 1-minute video by creatively introducing yourself. Don’t forget to
include cohesive devices in your spiel.
For the Photographers:
Your task is to take photos of some safety measures that we do this
pandemic and upload those on your Facebook account. As you post your
entries, you have to use cohesive devices in your captions.
For the Visual Artists:
Make a meme using cohesive devices out of the pictures given below
V. Assignment
Write a short paragraph about what you have learned today. Use cohesive
devices.
