while waiting to fetch their children comfortably. At both bays, windows are placed at
every room. This ensures that no matter where the teachers are, they can observe what
the children are doing. This allows the teachers to ensure the children’s safety. By
providing this safety to the children, they will begin to feel more safe and secure to
explore the environment around them, hence encouraging development in the children
(Khan, 2016). At the infant bay, children of different motor skills developmental
milestones are separated into their respective milestones (non-mobile infants, crawling
infants, walking infants). This nullifies the chaos that would happen if the children were
all to be put together as the mobile infants might compromise the safety of the non-
movement development area so that the children will not injure themselves if they were
to fall. This ensures the safety and wellbeing of the children, creating a safe
environment for the children to explore and develop in. At both bays, the noisy areas
and quiet areas are separated. This provides a conducive learning environment for the
children. For example, at the infant bay, the noisy areas (diapering/showering area,
feeding area, meal preparation area) are placed on the extreme left while the quiet
areas (sleeping area, storage area/ sick bay, language and literacy area) are positioned
at the extreme right. By separating the noisy and quiet areas, the children will not get
distracted in the classroom, which will encourage the children to use the materials they
find to the fullest potential, maximising the impact each resource has on each child’s
development (Sanroff, 1995). The messy art corner is strategically placed beside the
toilet for infants so that the children will have minimal distance to cover to wash their
hands. This will ensure that the mess that the children make around the class will be
minimal as compared to if they were to walk a long distance to wash their hands. The
storage of the cots is in the sleeping area to reduce the waiting time for the children to
lie down on their cots. This prevents the children from getting upset if the waiting time
was too long. Mirrors are placed at both the movement development area as well as the
music and movement room so that the children can observe the way they move their
bodies. Through this, the children can experiment and find out the different ways they
can manipulate their bodies to move, helping them understand their bodies better. It
also gives the children a sense of identity as they observe themselves through the
mirror (Lincolne, 2018). The pathway to the emergency exit is left unobstructed so that
emergency. Child-sized furniture like low chairs as well as low shelves are used so that
the children can independently access the materials. This encourages autonomy and
self-confidence in the children as they can independently access the resources found
around the centre without the help of an adult (Kaplan Early Learning Company, n.d.).
The diapering table at the infant bay is placed in a position which allows the teacher to
observe the rest of the infants in the room while diapering the infant. This ensures the
safety of all the infants as the teacher is always monitoring their actions, reducing the
infants.
