SUBJECT: ONLINE EXAMINATIONS

Following the Ministry of Education announcement that face to face learning shall
resume in January 2021 the University Senate met and issued the following directives

Completion of Semester II 2019/2020

The University Senate had earlier directed that all lecturers complete the remaining two
weeks of semester II 19/20 through the available online means, the E-Masomo and E-
notes platforms by 7th August, 2020 and henceforth begin preparations for online
examinations. This is therefore to inform you as follows:

i. All Bachelor and Diploma finalist student shall start online examinations on 24th
August 2020
ii. All other continuing students shall sit examinations from 14th September 2020.
iii. The examinations shall be held on normal University teaching hours. The
examinations duration shall last between 3-4hrs depending on respective
department regulations.
iv. Examinations timetables will be released in due course.
v. The University shall hold mock examinations and also conduct a readiness survey
for all students towards taking of online examinations in the week of 17th- 21st
December 2020.
vi. All students sitting end of semester examination shall be required to: -
a) Have access to a laptop/computer with reliable internet connection, at least
4GB of RAM with 500GB ROM. The device should have a camera with good
resolution to enable facial identification. The computer must also have at least
MS office 2010 and above. Students are encouraged to register their mobile
lines as per earlier circular dated 28th May 2020 to benefit from subsidized
bundles from Safaricom and Telkom mobile network providers. Students who
have not registered their mobile lines have up to 15th August, 2020. The
University has upgraded its E-Learning platform to include AI proctoring
among others to allow convenience in taking and invigilating examinations
online.
b) Clear all fees by Wednesday 19th August 2020. Further, students must complete
all mandatory procedures to be allowed to sit examinations including, full
payment of fees, lecturer evaluation and having attained at least 85%
attendance.

Supplementary examinations 2019/2020

Supplementary/special examinations for the current academic year shall be held in


October 2020 as per the timetable to be released later by this office. All conditions for
seating the same shall remain as per the University Examination policy.
Commencement of 2020/2021 academic year

The 2020/2021 academic year shall commence on 4th January 2021. All student who shall
be having pending attachment for their last year of study shall attend the same in
September 2021.

The Registrar ASA Office as per KyU student handbook provisions, shall henceforth
communicate through the official student email addresses on matters academics, all
students are required to ensure that they are able to access this accounts. Kindly ensure
you have prepared for all the above in good time.
