Audience
This document provides important information about changes and new features that are
available in this release. The document is of particular interest to those who install Microsoft
Dynamics® SL 2018 CU1 or develop applications for it. All users can benefit from reviewing
the content to determine where they may benefit from the changes in this release.
Make sure that you also read “Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 CU1 Summary of Changes”
(SummaryofChange.pdf)
The .pdf documents included in this release will be installed to the Help directory on the
server. Additionally, these documents, and earlier versions, are available for download on
CustomerSource:
https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/northamerica/SL/learning/documentation/.

Note: We recommend that you review the Release Notes and Summary of Changes
documents for all versions and service packs/cumulative updates between your earlier
version and this release.

Before You Begin

You must uninstall the earlier version of Microsoft Dynamics SL before you install Microsoft
Dynamics SL 2018 CU1. Failure to do this results in the installation wizard stopping with a
message instructing you to first uninstall the earlier version. You will find the installation
guide, “Updating Microsoft Dynamics SL to Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 CU1”
(InstallationGuide.pdf), in the \Help folder of the installation package. Review the guide
before you begin.

Security Planning
Make security decisions carefully and establish procedures to support your decisions before
you install this release. The Security Guidelines for Microsoft Dynamics SL
(MicrosoftDynamicsSLSecurity.pdf) in the Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 CU1 installation
package is provided as a starting point. It contains information about how to help secure
your database, communication channels, and how to help secure access to the applications.
One section includes recommendations on how to implement Windows authentication on a
computer that is running Microsoft® SQL Server®. Microsoft Dynamics SL supports the use
of secure communication channels between the client and SQL Server by using Transport
Layer Security (TLS).
This information is provided for planning only and should not be used as a substitute for a
thorough system evaluation with a Microsoft Certified Partner and internal IT staff. A
Microsoft Certified Partner is uniquely qualified to recommend a configuration that helps
improve the security of your business data.

When planning your system security, see the “Security Guidelines for Microsoft Dynamics SL
Release 2018” documentation for information about permissions for the Microsoft Dynamics
SL administrator in SQL Server.

Customizations
New features and improvements or corrections sometimes affect customizations made to a
report or screen. If the Microsoft Dynamics SL installation includes customizations, review
the Summary of Changes documents to determine the effect this release might have on
your customized reports or screens.

3 of 6
Before upgrading your databases, export the Microsoft Dynamics SL customizations to a .cst
file, and then import the file into the upgraded database. See the Customization Manager
help or user’s guide for information about how to export and import .cst files (summary
information is also available in the “Export Customizations” section of the Microsoft
Dynamics SL Installation Guide). It is also a good idea to print the code associated with the
customization by using the Visual Basic for Applications IDE.

General

Registration Keys

Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 requires a new set of registration keys. These keys also may be
used for Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 CU1. Before registering
the product, obtain your new registration keys from CustomerSource
(https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersourceapp/myprofile/product_service_summary.aspx)
or contact your Microsoft Certified Partner for more information on how to obtain your
registration assistance.

TLS 1.2 Support

Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 CU1 supports connection to SQL Server from Crystal Reports
using TLS 1.2. An ODBC connection is created using the SQL Native Client. The SQL Native
client version installed with Dynamics SL 2018 CU1 has been upgraded to version
2011.110.7001.0 which supports TLS 1.2.

Administration and Foundation

Database Update

A scenario has been added to Database Maintenance to support updating directly from a
Dynamics SL 2018 database to a Dynamics SL 2018 CU1 database. This scenario will
execute scripts that apply only those database changes introduced with Dynamics SL 2018
CU1. Users may alternatively perform a full update against the database(s).

Home Page Display/Intelligent Cloud

Microsoft Dynamics SL’s Home Page feature has been available for multiple versions of SL and
allows the displaying of an internal or external webpage inside of Microsoft Dynamics SL’s menu.

Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 CU1 release updates the compatibility of this feature to properly display
modern websites.

4 of 6
The Home Page setting in the User Maintenance (95.260.00) screen and in the Group Maintenance
(95.280.00) screen controls which website displays in the Home Page area.

During the Microsoft Dynamics SL 2018 CU1 upgrade process, the Home Page field in the User
Maintenance table for the SYSADMIN will automatically be updated, no matter if a value currently exists.

The Home Page field will be populated with the URL to the sign up for the Microsoft Intelligent Cloud.

The Microsoft Intelligent Cloud provides Microsoft Dynamics SL users the opportunity to copy and view
their SL data in the Microsoft cloud.

The User Maintenance screen includes a new button located next to the Home Page field.
The button is called Home Page copy to and is used to provide SL Admins a way to copy Home Page web
sites from one user to one or multiple users as well as groups.

Suggested scenarios:
Sharing the Intelligent Cloud information through SL’s Home Page feature
1. SL Admins contact their users to discuss the Intelligent Cloud.
2. To share the information on the Intelligent Cloud:
a. The SL Admin opens the User Maintenance screen and loads in the SL Admin
b. Next, they click the Home Page copy to button and select which users or groups to copy the
Intelligent Cloud setup URL
3. SL users will now be able to view information about the Intelligent Cloud inside of Microsoft
Dynamics SL’s menu.
Once the Intelligent Cloud is setup, displaying the Intelligent Cloud through SL’s Home Page feature
4. SL Admins work with their Dynamics SL Partners to sign up for the Intelligent Cloud.
5. Once the Intelligent Cloud is setup, the SL Admin opens the SL User Maintenance screen
and copies the Intelligent Cloud URL into the Home Page field.
6. Next, they click the Home Page copy to button and select which users or groups to copy the
Intelligent Cloud URL.
7. SL users will now be able to view Intelligent Cloud information inside of Microsoft Dynamics SL’s
menu.

Vendor Inactive
There is now an inactive status that can be set for vendors in the Vendor Maintenance (03.270.00)
screen.

When a vendor is inactive, the software does not permit the selection of the vendor in new transaction
documents (voucher and adjustment entry, payment, requisitions, purchase order, inventory,
etc.). Likewise, maintenance screen (for example: inventory items preferred vendor field), will not be
allowed to select inactive vendors. Vendors will remain unavailable until the vendor’s status is changed
back to Active or One Time.

5 of 6
Documents previously entered into the system will not be available for processing when the vendor’s
status is inactive. When setting a vendor to inactive status in the Vendor Maintenance screen, the
screen will warn or not allow the status change if exiting settings in the system are relying on this
vendor, such as vendor’s on Purchase Orders and vendor’s as preferred vendors for inventory
items. Vendors must be removed from the reported conflicted screens before they can be set to
inactive status.

Project Management

GL Reversals - FTT
Financial Transaction Transfer (FTT) will switch the sign for units (quantity) when the GL
transaction is a Credit and the GL account type is Expense or Asset or if the GL transaction
is a Debit and the GL account type is a Revenue or Liability. However, the 'Correct Journal
Transaction' feature also switches the sign of the quantity, causing FTT to transfer the
wrong quantity to Project. Reversing Project-related batches will no longer switch the sign
for the Quantity.

Time and Expense Setup

The Time and Expense Setup screen tab header and labels have been updated to identify
the tab page as the setup screen for Web Applications.

Project Timesheets

Timecards created from a timesheet will contain line items with an approval status derived
from the setting in Project Task configuration. The creation of timecards now is consistent
with timecard creation in Web Apps.

Expense Entry Notes and Attachments

Notes and attachments for Time & Expense Entry and for Expense Report Review &
Approval are enabled for all report statuses. The notes and attachments may be opened
and reviewed for Completed and well as “In Process” reports.
