Sample Question For Trial

The document contains 4 sections describing pressure gauge and drawdown test data from oil production wells. The sections can be summarized as: 1) Provides data to calculate the production rate required to create a 1 psi pressure drop after 5 hours at an observation well 330 ft from an oil production well. 2) Provides a graph of drawdown test data and asks to estimate permeability, skin factor, wellbore storage, and other properties. 3) Provides a graph of shut-in pressure buildup data and asks to calculate production time, permeability, initial pressure, wellbore storage, and skin factor. 4) Provides an extended drawdown test table and asks to estimate original oil in place.

1.

A downhole pressure gauge has been installed in an observation well located 330 ft away from
an oil production well. Use the following reservoir data to calculate the production rate required
to create 1 psi pressure drop at the observation well after 5 hours of production. Note the
production rate fpr the observation well is zero.

External radius re = 1452 ft,

Wellbore radius, rw = 0.25 ft,
Total compressibility, ct = 5* 10^-5 psi^-1
Oil viscosity, uo = 2 cp
Porosity, = 0.23
Permeability, k = 2500 mD,
Formation thickness, h = 20 ft,
Oil formation volume factor, Bo = 1.2 bbl/STB
Initial pressure, pi = 3000 psia

2. The drawdown test data of a recovery well in an oil reservoir is shown in the graph below. The
well was produced at a single constant rate of 550 STB/D for a total time of 725 hours. Other
reservoir and fluid properties data are as follows:
Formation thickness, h = 20 ft,
Initial reservoir pressure, Pi = 5665 psia,
Formation volume factor, Bo = 1.45bbl/STB,
Porosity, ø = 0.23,
Total compressibility, ct = 6*10^-5 psi-1
Oil viscosity, uo = 0.42 cp,
Wellbore radius, rw = 0.5 ft. Use the plot to estimate the following:
a) Estimate reservoir permeability,
b) Estimate the well skin factor,
c) Estimate the end of wellbore storage,
d) Estimate reservoir transmissibility, storativity and diffusivity constant
3. A well in an oil reservoir was shut-in for a buildup test after producing 20,000STB at a constant
rate 480 STBD. The shut-in pressure measure versus time is shown in the graph below. Calculate
the production time, the effective permeability of the formation, the initial reservoir pressure
estimate approximate end of wellbore storage, the dimensionless wellbore storage coefficient
and the skin factor.

Flowing wellbore pressure prior to shut-in = 2832 psai

Formation thickness = 20 ft,
Porosity = 18%,
Wellbore radius = 0.5 ft
Formation volume factor = 1.2 bbl/STB,
Total compressibility = 2.6*10^-5 psi-1
Oil viscosity uo = 1.5 cp

4. Data of an extended drawdown test of an oil well are shown in the table below. The well was
produced at a single constant rate of 100 STBD. Other reservoir and fluid properties data are as
follows:

Formation volume factor, Bo = 1.45 bbl/STB,

Water saturation Sw = 0.25
Total compressibility, ct = 1*10^-6 psi-1
Estimate the reservoir oil in place
