INTRODUCTION
Tahong, or the Asian green mussel, are a delicious shellfish that is one of the more affordable
bundles you can get at your local palengke or supermarket. It's plentiful when available, and best
of all, it makes a great meal.
If you love tahong, just always make sure to keep an eye out for new for the dreaded red tide
alert before heading to the market. Whether you're looking for tahong, crabs, or even just shrimp,
it's always good practice to know when it's safe and unsafe to consume shellfish in your area.
RECIPE
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup tahong (boiled with salt and ginger, removed from shell)
2 eggs
1 cup of flour
¼ cup celery
1 medium sized carrot, diced
1 whole onion, diced
8 cloves of garlic, minced
salt and pepper to taste
juice of half a lemon
PROCEDURE:
1. Slice the tahong into small pieces and place into a bowl.
2. Add the carrots, onions, garlic, celery, salt, pepper, egg, and flour into the tahong.
3. Mix all the ingredients until well incorporated.
4. Scoop some of the mixture into a plate and flatten using a spatula to create your
tahong patty.
5. In a frying pan over medium heat, fry your patties.
6. Serve with catsup or any dipping sauce of your choice.
