Quiz of Clues
This quiz uses clues from three categories (warm/cool, clear/muted, light/dark) to narrow
down to the best match for you from the 12-season color analysis system.
Instructions
1. Clean off all makeup before beginning.
2. You’ll need a hand mirror, pencil, and this print out.
3. Set up next to a window with bright natural light (without direct sunlight hitting you).
Do not take this quiz using artificial light.
4. Go through the quiz line by line, using a hand mirror as needed to analyze for
questions related to your skin, hair, and eyes.
5. Circle the answer in the column corresponding only to descriptions that apply to you.
There may be column items that are not circled because they do not apply to you.
TIP: If having trouble deciding whether something describes you it often helps to think of a
friend, acquaintance, or celebrity that clearly characterizes that description. Then compare
yourself to them. Are you similar or opposite?

● Test recommended colors on yourself. Clues help you narrow down the best colors for your
complexion but it’s still important to test the colors on yourself to confirm. Here are a
couple of ways you can do that:
○ Get your husband or a friend to help you compare colors in opposite categories.
Warm/Cool: Brown/Black. Clear/Muted: dusty rose or rusty orange versus bright pink
and bright orange. Light Dark: light vs. dark version of whichever color looks best on
you. Answer for each draping: which one blends with my complexion so that you see
my face first?
○ Choose a subseason’s recommended colors and find any examples of those colors in
your closet. Wear only those colors near your face for a week. Make notes about how
you feel in those colors and what you see when you look in the mirror. Then the next
week do the same drill but with another subseason from your results. You may want
to take selfies facing a window. Compare notes--you may be surprised at how obvious
it becomes!
● Look back at each section and locate the one with nearly equal results. If one or two of the
prompts answered incorrectly tipped the scales, try simply ommitting them. Does that
change your score?
● Read the descriptions on the subseasons, write an “x” next to the ones that obviously don’t
describe you. By omitting you may be able to further narrow down your best match. For
visuals, look at the visuals on CardiganEmpire.com:
