LESSON PLAN

SCHOOL: Scoala Profesionala Fantanele
CLASS: 3rd
DATE: March 24th 2021
LESSON: A lovely day!
AIMS: The students will learn:
 to practise reading;
 to practise vocabulary regarding the weather;
 to practise listening;
 to follow instructions uttered in English
 to practise group work;
Aims for the teacher:
- to develop students’ ability to read and pronounce correctly the English words;
- to arouse the students’ interest and curiosity about the weather
VOCABULARY AREA: the weather
SKILLS involved: writing, speaking, reading, listening
OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, my students will be able to:
 speak about the weather in English;
 use the correct expressions about the weather;
 read and speak in English
Techniques:
- conversation,
- explanation,
- exercises
Materials:
- textbook,
- Worksheets
- Videoprojector;
- Laptop
Activity forms:
- Frontal activity – pair work, group work
- Individual activity
EVALUATION TYPES:
- Initial - through “warm-up” activity
- Continue- observation, activities, analyses of answers
- Final- oral, homework
ASSUMPTIONS:
 students should be able to read and listen to a short text for a specific purpose;
 students should be able to identify the correct action in English;
Anticipated Problems:
 Students could become noisy when working in groups;
 Some students may not understand the task given by the teacher;
 Some students may have difficulties in pronouncing or reading a text in English;

Attending Strategies:
 Teacher’s role: conductor, standing front centre for presentation or crouching next to a group of
students during controlled practice
 Teacher’s attitude: moves around the class, keeps eye- contact but also encourages students to
speak
 Teacher always corrects students’ mistakes
Class Management:
 The classroom provides the necessary environment for working in groups
 There will be textbooks on students’ desks
Time: 45 minutes

ACTIVITIES

Activity 1: Warm-up
Aims:
- to create a pleasant atmosphere for learning
- to involve sudents by means of personalisation
- to check their knowledge from the previous lesson

Procedure Interaction Timing


ORGANIZATIONAL MOMENT: The teacher greets the pupils, asks for T-Ss 6’
absentees and puts questions related to their homework. The pupils answer the
questions and the teacher corrects them if necessary.
Who is missing today? T-Ss
How are you today? Are you ready for the lesson?
Did you do your homework? Would anyone like to read it?
The teacher checks the written homework, orally, encouraging the students when it is
required and allowing them to self-correct if necessary.

Activity 2: Pre-Reading
Aims:
- to arouse students interest in the topic
- to involve class by focussing students’ attention and making them think;

Procedure Interaction Timing


The teacher announces the new topic and writes the title on the blackboard: A T-Ss 9’
lovely day!
The teacher gives students a worksheet. Teacher asks the students to work in pairs Ss-Ss
to write the words with the pictures. After they finish the exercise they come and
glue on the board the weather pictures they matched on the worksheet. T-Ss

Activity 3: While-reading
Aims:
- to check understanding
- to reinforce vocabulary regarding the weather
- to practice reading and pronounciation
- to practise reading for a specific purpose

Procedure Interaction Timing


Teacher asks students to listen and read to the text A LOVELY DAY, on page 22. After T-Ss 10’
they finish listening, the students will read the text alone, with the teacher monitoring
the activity. Ss
Then the students will solve exercise 2 page 22. In pairs, the students must match the
expressions with the pictures from the text. After they finish they read their solutions
and correct themselves if necessary.
Activity 4: Post-reading
Aims:
- to check understanding
- to practice new acquired knowledge
- to make sentences using the present continuous tense

Procedure Interaction Timing


Teacher tells Ss that they need to solve exercise 3 page 23. In groups of 4/5 they must complete T-Ss 10’
the sentences using the correct verbs and the ending -ing to describe what the
characters are doing in the image. Ss
The teacher gives them an example: 1. Mona is jumping.

Activity 5: Follow-up
Aims:
- to reinforce students’s knowledge related to weather;

Procedure Interaction Timing


The teacher asks Ss to look out the window and describe the weather. T-Ss 5’
Example: It’s sunny!

Activity 6: Assigning homework
Aims: consolidation of new acquired knowledge’
Procedure Interaction Timing
The teacher explains the topic of the homework (exercise 4 page 23 from the textbook). T-Ss 5’
The Ss take notes about their homework.
The teacher gives marks for the students’ performance, taking into consideration the
involvement of students to the lesson.
