Narrative Report of The Enrichment Activities in Science
Department of Education
Region I
Schools Division of San Carlos City
Despite the temporary closure of school buildings around the world due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, learning and teaching continues through the different distance
learning modality approaches. Taking into consideration the safety and wellbeing of
students, staff and families remains as the top priority of the Department of Education
as it continues to put learners and learning at the forefront of its every action.
In an effort to ensure that maximum learning is met, the Department of Education
mandated it teachers to prepare Enrichment Activities aside from the Student Learning
Modules (SLMs) that learners can answer themselves or with the aid of their
parents/guardians. Teachers also provide assistance to learners in the completion of
this SLMs via different messaging apps such as Messenger or via texts and calls. The
preparation of enrichment activities aside from the SLMs aim to enable mastery of
different learning competencies in all subject areas. Enrichment activities provided by
teachers is one of the actions prescribed by the Department to improve understanding
and retention of said learning competencies.
In line with this, every teacher of SEPNAS provided enrichment activities to
maximize learners’ understanding and retention. For Grade 7 Science, four (4)
enrichment activities covering multiple learning competencies were prepared by the
subject teacher.
Activity 1 covers the topic on “How to Use the Compound Microscope” which
contains the following objectives: 1) Handle the microscope properly; 2) Identify
the parts of the microscope; and 3) Describe what parts of the microscope can
do. In this activity, learners studied the different parts of a microscope and their
respective functions. Learners were also educated that knowing the different
functions of the parts of the microscope is necessary in taking care of the
microscope properly.
Activity 2 centers on “What Makes Up an Organism?” and aims for the learners
to: 1) Identify the parts that make up an organism; 2) Describe the function of
each part; and 3) Describe how these parts work together in an organism. In this
activity, learners were able to understand that the cell is the smallest unit of life
and that it makes up all of the living organisms. Furthermore. learners gained
understanding of cells, tissues, organs, organ systems make up an organism.
Learners also learned about the different organ systems in an organism and
which organs make up each organ systems.
Activity 3 on the other hand, focuses on “Comparing Plant and Animal Cells” and
requires learners to: 1) Identify the parts of the cell; 2) Describe plant and animal
cells; 3) Differentiate plant cells from animal cells; and 4) Construct a Venn
diagram to show parts that are common to both and parts that are only found
either plant or animal cells. In this activity, learners studied plants and animal
cells and were asked to identify the similarities and differences between the said
cells. Learners were also able to differentiate the shapes of these cells and were
also able to identify which organelles were present in both cells and which
organelles were absent. Lastly, using all the information they have gathered in
comparing the two cells, learners were tasked to create a Venn Diagram.
Activity 4 discusses “Relating Organism With One Another” where learners must
be able to: 1) Identify the relationships among organisms. In this activity, learners
were able to explain what is the relationship between different animals and were
able to identify if said relationship are beneficial or harmful to each other.
Learners were also able to understand that these relationships are normal in the
environment and for the ecosystem to function normally.
Through the administering of these Enrichment activities, the teacher was able to
ensure that mastery of the learning competency is met. Several pictures of outputs from
Grade 7 learners are affixed on this document.
