2. Installation
2.1. System requirements (recommended)
Set the installation CD in the CD drive. The installer program automatically starts.
Follow the directions provided by the [InstallShield Wizard].
If the program does not start automatically, start it according to the procedure below.
When the program starts, the screen shown below appears. Click [Next].
When you do not wish to specify a particular installation folder (use default folder), click
[Next].
When installation is completed, the screen shown below appears. Click [Finish].
Required items
LAN cross-cable (100BASE-TX)
Note: LAN cross-cables are not the same as general LAN cables. If it is difficult to obtain
a LAN cross-cable, refer to "3.2 Connection via hub".
Connection
Connect the PC's LAN port and the NC's LAN port directly with a cross-cable.
PC Settings (Windows)
Select [Start] ⇒ [Settings] ⇒ [Network and Dial-up Connections] ⇒ [Local Area Connection]
(*1).
Click [Properties].
Select [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)] on the <Properties> screen, and click [Properties].
The screen shown below appears. Select [Use the following IP address], enter "192.168.1.1"
for [IP address] and ”255.255.255.0” (*2) for [Subnet mask], and click [OK].
(*1) This is the default name when Windows is installed. The name may differ depending
on your environment.
(*2) When you are already connected to a LAN, please ask your network administrator
for the IP address and Subnet mask.
Note: Click [Save Setup] to use the latest settings the next time you start the software.
NC Settings
Refer to "5. NC Settings", and set the NC's communication parameters.
Required items
Hub (100BASE-TX)
LAN cable (100BASE-TX)
Connection
Connect the PC and hub, and the NC and hub with LAN cables.
PC Settings (Windows)
Select [Start] ⇒ [Settings] ⇒ [Network and Dial-up Connections] ⇒ [Local Area Connection]

Click [Properties].
Select [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)] on the <Properties> screen, and click [Properties].
The screen shown below appears. Select [Use the following IP address], enter "192.168.1.1"
for [IP address] and ”255.255.255.0” (*2) for [Subnet mask], and click [OK].

Connection
Connect the PC and the NC directly with a serial reverse cable.
PC Settings (Windows)
No settings are required.
(*1) "COM 1" is generally set for [COM Port]. However, this may differ depending on
your environment.
(*2) The setting for [Baud Rate] must be the same as the setting on the NC.
Note: Click [Save Setup] to use the latest settings the next time you start the software.
NC Settings
Refer to "5. NC Settings", and set the NC's communication parameters.
Notes:
1. Refer to "3. Simple Setting Guide" when connecting one PC and one NC.
2. LAN settings should be performed by an experienced operator. Please ask your
network administrator.

Click the [Brother comm.] icon created on the desktop, or select [Start] ⇒ [Programs] ⇒
[Brother comm.].
Note: Current settings are saved when you click the [Save Setup] button on the Setup
panel. These settings are read the next time the software is started, so it is not
necessary to reset this data.
File
Select the data to be sent.
Click the Explorer icon to select the data from Explorer.
Note: See the File Name Table for the relationship between the NC's data names and
the PC's file names.
Contents
Displays the contents of the file.
Note: When the data is selected by entering the file name, click [View] and the
contents of the file are displayed.
Send To
Select the destination for the data.
Note: Only connected devices with both the IP address and port number entered are
displayed.
[Send]
Click [Send] to send the data.
[Cancel]
Click [Cancel] to cancel operation.
Path
Displays the folder where the received data is stored.
You can change the folder on the Setup panel.
Data
Select the data to be received.
Nr.
Enter the program number or data bank number to be received.
Receive From
Select the data source.
Note: Only connected devices with both the IP address and port number entered are
displayed.
[Receive]
Click [Receive] to receive the data.
[Cancel]
Click [Cancel] to cancel operation.
Note: Click [Save Setup] to use the latest settings the next time you start the software.
Path
Specify the folder where the received data is stored.
Unit
Select the unit system.
Note: This setting does not guarantee operation at the specified speed. The
operation speed is also affected by your PC’s environment, capability, cable noise,
etc.
Receiving
The PC receives the directory information from the NC, and receives all programs and data
banks in the NC.
Sending
The PC sends all files in the specified folder to the NC.
Path
Displays the folder where the transmitted data is stored.
You can change the folder on the Setup panel.
Connect To
Select the connected device.
Note: Only connected devices with both the IP address and port number entered are
displayed.
[Receive ALL]
Click [Receive ALL] to receive all data.
[Send ALL]
Click [Send ALL] to send all data.
[Cancel]
Click [Cancel] to cancel operation.
