别 + verb (bié)= don’t…

现在上课，别说话 (xiànzài shàngkè, bié shuōhuà) = It is class now, don’t talk

宝宝在睡觉，别听音乐。(bǎobǎo zài shuìjiào, bié tīng yīnyuè) = baby is sleeping, don’t listen to music.

别吃太多零食 (bié chī tài duō língshí) = Don’t eat too much snacks

别看电视太久，浪费时间 (bié kàn diànshì tài jiǔ, làngfèi shíjiān) = don’t watch TV for too long, (it’s)
waste of time.

别睡太晚，明天要早起 (bié shuì tài wǎn, míngtiān yào zǎoqǐ) = Don’t sleep to late, tomorrow will have to
get up early.

别打断他说话 (bié dǎduàn tā shuōhuà) = Don’t interrupt him talking.

别不告诉我，说吧 (bié bù gàosu wǒ, shuō ba ) = Don’t hide from me (not tell me), please say it (tell me).

别玩火 (bié wánhuǒ) = Don’t play with fire

喝酒以后开车危险，别玩火 (hējiǔ yìhòu kāichē wēixiǎn bié wánhuǒ) = It is dangerous to drive


after drinking, don’t play with fire

别理我 (bié lǐwǒ) = Do not pay attention to me (leave me alone)

现在我很难过，别理我 (xiànzài wǒ hěn nánguò, bié lǐwǒ) = I’m very upset, leave me alone

别理他 (bié lǐ tā) = Leave him along (ignore him)

他总是生气，别理他 (tā zǒngshì shēngqì, bié lǐ tā ) = He’s always angry, leave him alone.

Dialogue A: 好久不见！最近怎么样？别说假话！

(hǎojiǔ bújiàn! zuìjìn zěnmeyàng? bié shuō jiǎhuà)=

Long time no see! How you doing recently? Do not tell me lies

B：最近工作忙，但是心情还好。

(zuìjìn gōngzuò máng, dànshì xīnqíng háihǎo)

Recently I’v e been busy at work, but I’m feeling alright.


A：赚钱多是好，但是别工作太累

(zhuànqián duō shì hǎo, dànshì bié gōngzuò tài lèi)

Making a lot of money is good, but don’t get too tired at work.

B：我最近运动多但是身体还是不太好。

(wǒ zuìjìn yùndòng duō dànshì shēntǐ háishì bú tài hǎo)

Lately I’ve been working out a lot but I’m still not feeling well

A：别吃太多垃圾食品，别睡太晚。

(bié chī tài duō lājī shípǐn, bié shuì tài wǎn)

Don’t eat a lot of junk food, don’t sleep too late

B: 你怎么知道我这样？

(nǐ zénme zhīdào wǒ zhèyàng)

How do you know I’m like this?

A: 你大学的时候就是这样！

(nǐ dàxué de shíhòu jiùshì zhèyàng)

During college you were just like this.

B: 别笑我，你不说假话。

(bié xiào wǒ, nǐ bù shuō jiǎhuà) =

Don’t tease me, you don’t lie.

A: 那当然，我们是老朋友。

(nà dāngrán, wǒmen shì lǎopéngyǒu)

Of course, we are old friends.

B: 朋友是老的好，别不联系啊！

(péngyǒu shì lǎo de hǎo, bí bù liánxì ā)

Old friends are great, don’t stop contacting me (keep in touch)
