Namrata Misra received the M.Sc. degree in Bioinformatics from IIT (BHU) Varanasi, India, and
the Ph.D. degree in Biological Science from AcSIR - Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research,
CSIR-IMMT. She also received Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the Science and Engineering
Research Board, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Currently, Dr. Misra
has been actively involved in promoting innovations in life science and start-up ecosystem as
Head-Bioinnovations at KIIT-Technology Business Incubator, KIIT University. She manages the
incubation center with self-sufficiency criteria, liaise with industry and academia, organize
business related conferences, and conduct mentorship exercises to the incubatees. She has hand-
held several biotech start-ups /innovators researchers (Faculty members, Post docs, Doctoral
and Masters students) for detailed writing of the projects / research proposals, scanning for call
for proposals, presenting them to the funding agencies and winning the projects through, to the
detailed execution of technology/product development. Dr. Namrata has also been a catalyst in
creating innovation ecosystem by being an active member of the Technology Enabling Centre at
KIIT University, supported by DST and the BIRAC Regional Centre @KIITTBI focusing on East and
North East states of India and Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster (BCKIC),
supported by PSA, Govt of India. She mentors students, startups and academicians to better their
innovative interventions from perspectives of customer centricity and commercialization
through industry readiness, scalability and market outreach. She is a regular speaker in various
entrepreneurship development programs across Universities and Institutes in the country. She
has also visited the University of Edinburgh -UK under the Training-SinnoLABs Managers
program on Innovation & Entrepreneurship in 2018 under the EU Erasmus Mundus Program.
Also, she was selected to attend the ENPRENDIA Training of trainers and management meeting
on Entrepreneurship Development in Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 2020. Recently, she
received the prestigious “Odisha Young Scientist Award-2020” by Science and Technology
Department of Government of Odisha.
Besides being the Head of Bioinnovations at KIIT Technology Business Incubator, she is also
Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, KIIT University among other key
positions. Her research focus is on the study of vital metabolic pathways and in-depth sequence-
structural analysis of underpinning enzymes and also vaccine development using a
computational approach. She has also developed several cutting-edge computations tools,
databases, and web servers. She has authored or coauthored more than 30 international journal
publications. She is also the Principal investigator of two translational R&D grant from DST and
DBT. She is also the editor of an Elsevier book on Biomedical Imaging Instrumentation:
Applications in Tissue, Cellular and Molecular Diagnostics (ISBN: 9780323856508).
