Auxiliary Circuit-Conventional

The document describes the auxiliary power circuit of a locomotive. It has three key components: 1) An ARNO converter that converts single-phase AC supply from the transformer to three-phase AC supply to power various motors. 2) Blower motors that provide cooling for equipment like traction motors and transformers. They are powered by the three-phase AC from the ARNO converter. 3) A protection and monitoring system that includes earth fault protection, low voltage protection, and monitoring of equipment like oil pumps and blowers.

Auxiliary Circuit

Auxiliary Functions
• Cooling Power Equipment
– Oil Pumps
 MPH
– Blower Motors
MVRH (Transformer Oil Radiator Cooling Blower)
MVMT (Traction Motor Cooling Blower)
MVSI (RSI Block Cooling Blower)
MVSL ( Smoothing Reactor Cooling Blower)
– Air Supply
 MCP (Motor for Compressors)
Auxiliary System
• 415V Three-phase AC induction motors
• Single-phase AC supply taken from TFWA
(Auxiliary Winding of Transformer)
• Converted to Three-phase using
– ARNO converter
– Static Inverter
• Supply fed to Motors through Switches
and Contactors
Protection & Monitoring System
• Protection
– Earth Fault Protection (QoA)
– Low-Voltage Protection (Q30)
• Monitoring
– QPH for Oil Pumps
– QVRH, QVMT1,2; QVSI & QVSL respectively for
MVRH, MVMT1,2; MVSI & MVSL.
ARNO Converter
• Three-phase induction machine
• Started as split-phase induction motor
using starting resistance (R118) brought
into circuit by closing C118 contactor
• When ARNO picks up speed C118 opens
and generated supply in W-phase along
with U and V from TFWA are fed to
auxiliary motors
