PHILIPPINE NAVY

(HUKBONG DAGAT)

The Philippine Navy (PN) (Filipino: Hukbong Dagat ng Pilipinas) is the naval warfare service
branch of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It has an estimated strength of 25,000 active
service personnel, including the 12,500-strong Philippine Marine Corps.[2] It operates 81
combat ships, 12 auxiliary ships, 25 aircraft and 8 unmanned aerial vehicles. It shares the
responsibility of patrolling the maritime borders with the Philippine Coast Guard, a formerly
attached unit which became a separate maritime law enforcement agency in 1998.
The Philippine Navy is administered through the Department of National Defense (DND).
Under the AFP structure, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, AFP, a four-star
general/admiral (if the officer is a member of the Philippine Navy), is the most senior military
officer. The senior naval officer is the Chief of the Navy, who usually holds the rank of vice
admiral. He, along with his or her air force and army counterparts, is junior only to the
Chairman. The CoN is solely responsible for the administration and operational status of the
Navy. His counterpart in the U.S. Navy is the Chief of Naval Operations.

VISION

The Philippine Navy’s Vision is: by 2030, we shall be a strong and credible navy that our
maritime nation can be proud of.

MISSION

To organize, train, equip, maintain, develop and deploy forces for prompt and sustained
naval and maritime operations in support of the Unified Commands in the accomplishment
of the AFP mission.

FUNCTIONS
It’s powers and functions are as follows:
1. To organize, train, equip, maintain and operate naval forces and naval aircrafts including
naval reserve units, necessary to provide water-borne support and assistance required by
the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the accomplishment of its mission;
2. To assist the proper governmental agencies in the enforcement of laws and regulations
pertaining to
navigation, immigration, customs revenue, opium, quarantine, fishing and neutrality in the
territorial and contiguous waters of the Philippine Archipelago;

3. To develop, in coordination with the other major services and area commands the
doctrines, procedures, and naval equipment for joint operations, and the doctrines and
procedures for amphibious operations;
4. To be responsible for the naval phases of reconnaissance, anti-submarine warfare and
the protection of shipping; and
5. To perform such other duties as the President may direct.

TRAINING AND DURATION


Training is one of the primary tasks that is handled by NAVRESCOM. One of its primary
training unit is the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) and the Basic Citizen's
Military Training (BCMT).

The Naval Reserve Command also through its ROTC Program prepare future officers in the
navy serving in the reserve force. Under the Naval Officer Qualification Course (NOQC),
college graduates are trained to take roles as officers in Philippine Navy and the Philippine
Marine Corps.

SALARIES
Earn as much of Php 45, 416.00 while on training as Officer Candidate (OC) equivalent to
Salary Grade 19 while on training.
Earn as much as Php 51, 679.00 upon graduation with the rank of Ensign(ENS)/Second
Lieutenant(2LT) equivalent to Salary Grade 20.
Earn additional Longevity pay of 10% of the current monthly base pay compounded every
five years of active military service.
Benefits and privileges (Free Medical and Dental Services (including dependents),
insurance, billeting, and housing privileges).
