Hydraulic Fluids: Hydraulic Fluid Must Be Able To Perform at Least The Following Functions

The document discusses various hydraulic fluids and their properties. It describes the functions a hydraulic fluid must perform including transferring power efficiently, lubricating parts, absorbing and transferring heat, and remaining stable. It then lists various types of hydraulic fluids and describes properties like viscosity and viscosity index that impact a fluid's resistance to flow and temperature stability.

HYDRAULIC FLUIDS
Hydraulic fluid must be able to perform at least the following functions
 Transfer fluid power efficiently
 Lubricate the moving parts
 Absorb, Carry and transfer the heat generated within the system
 Be compatible with hydraulic components
 Remain stable against a wide arrange of possible physical and chemical
changes, both during storage and while in use

PROPERTIES OF FLUIDS
• Viscosity:
It is a measured of the sluggishness with which a fluid moves. When the viscosity is
low, the fluid flows easily because it is thin and has low body.
“Fluids internal resistance offered to flow”
• Viscosity Index:
Alow V.I. signifies a relatively large change of viscosity with changes
of temperature. In other words, the oil becomes extremely thin at high temperatures
and extremely thick at low temperatures. On the other hand, a high
V.I. signifies relatively little change in viscosity over a wide temperature range.
