Coordinate Geometry

The document discusses coordinate systems. It introduces the Cartesian coordinate system which uses perpendicular x and y axes to locate points in a plane. The origin is where the axes meet. The document provides formulas for finding the coordinates of points that divide line segments internally or externally in a given ratio, midpoints, centroids, incetres, equations of lines, angles between lines, and properties of circles. It includes example problems for finding distances between points, coordinates of diameters, lengths of line segments intercepted by axes, and areas of triangles and trapezoids formed by lines.

CO-ORDINATE SYSTEM

In this session we will discuss Coordinate System.

CARTESIAN CO-ORDINATE SYSTEM
Rectangular Co – ordinate system:

1. Let X’OX and Y`OY be two mutually

perpendicular lines through any
point O in the plane of the paper.
2. Point O is known as the origin.
3. The line X’OX is called the x – axis
or axis or x .
4. The line Y’OY is known as the Y –
axis or axis of y .
5. The lines taken together are called
the co- ordinates axes or the axes
of co- ordinates.
