Enhanced Mathematics Q3-LAS Week 3

This document contains a learning activity sheet on angles formed by parallel lines cut by a transversal for 7th grade mathematics. It includes definitions of parallel lines and transversals. It then has examples and problems for students to practice identifying different types of angles formed (alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles, corresponding angles), using properties like equal measures and supplementary sums. The document is meant to help students learn and apply concepts of angles formed when parallel lines are intersected by a transversal.

Angles Formed by Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal

Topic

Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) with code /

Kasanayang Pampagkatuto at koda:

1. Derives relationships among angles formed by parallel lines

cut by a transversal using measurement and by inductive
reasoning. (M7GE-IIIc-1)

After the completion of this learning activity sheet, you should be

able to:
1. Names pairs of angles formed by parallel lines cut by a transversal;
alternate interior angle, alternate exterior angles and corresponding
angles..
2. Describes pairs of angles formed by parallel lines cut by a
transversal; alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles, and
corresponding angles.
3. Finds the measure of an angle formed by parallel lines cut by a
transversal.
4. Applies the Parallel – Interior Angles – Same Side Theorem and
Parallel – Exterior Angles – Same Side Theorem in finding the
measure of an angle.

In this Learning Activity Sheets (SAL), you will learn the concepts on
Angle Formed by Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal and its uses in real-
life situations.

Parallel Line are lines that do not intersect and are coplanar. ( ll
symbols of parallel)

Transversal Lines are lines that intersect two or more coplanar lines
in different points

Study Guide 1.

Refer to the figure. Study the conditions given and the relationship
between pairs of angles formed by parallel lines.

Line t is a transversal of line m and n. The angles that are formed

have special names:

1) ∠1 & ∠8, ∠2 & ∠7 are called alternate exterior angles

2) ∠3 & ∠6, ∠4 & ∠5 are called alternate interior angles

3) ∠3 & ∠5, ∠4 & ∠6 are interior angles on the same side of

Transversal

4) ∠1 & ∠7, ∠2 & ∠8 are exterior angles on the same side of the
Transversal

5) ∠1 & ∠5, ∠3 & ∠7

∠2 & ∠6, ∠4 & ∠8 are called corresponding angles

Relationship between pairs of angles formed by parallel line

cut by a transversal.

 The measures of alternate interior angles are equal.

 The measures of alternate exterior angles are equal.
 The sum of the measures of interior angles on the same side of
the transversal is 180° .
 The sum of the measures of exterior angles on the same side of
the transversal is 180° .

Illustrative Examples
A. Observe the measures of the angle pairs. Study the table that follows

Pairs of Angles Measurement

Alternate interior angles
∠3 & ∠6 65°
∠4 & ∠5 115°
Alternate exterior angles
∠1 & ∠8 115°
∠2 & ∠7 65°
Interior angles on the same side Note: The sum of these angles is 180°
of the transversal
∠3 & ∠5 65° and 115°
∠4 & ∠6 115° and 65°
Corresponding Angles
∠1 & ∠5 115°
∠3 & ∠7 65°
∠2 & ∠6 115°
∠4 & ∠8 65°

What did you observe with the measurements of the pairs of angles?

1. Corresponding angles?
Page |5

2. Alternate interior angles?

3. Interior angles on the same side of the transversal?
4. Alternate exterior angles?
5. exterior angles on the same side of the transversal?

Answers:

 Corresponding angles are congruent.

 Alternate interior angles are congruent.
 Interior angles on the same side of the transversal are
supplementary.
 Alternate exterior angles are congruent.
 Exterior angles on the same side of the transversal are
supplementary.

B. Solve the measure of the numbered angles if a and b are parallel lines
and c is the transveral line.

Solution:
∠2 and ∠3 are exterior angles of the same side. Based
on their relationship, the sum of the measures of exterior angles on
the same side of the transversal is 180° . Solving in algebraic
method,

m∠2+ m∠3=180 °

( 7 x−4 ) °+ 107=180

7 x + ( 107−4 ) =180

7 x +103=180

7 x=180−103

7 x=77

7 x 77
=
7 7

x=11

Activity 1: Answer the problems below.

If measure of ∠2 = x + 20 and measure of ∠5 = 4x - 50,

a) what is x?
b) find the measure of the angles.

Activity 2:

Solve for x and find the measure of the angles.

the given choices. Write the letter of your choice on the clean sheet of
paper.
