EXHALYZER: Device Used To Sense Alcohol Content: Background of The Study

This document describes the development of an Exhalyzer device to detect alcohol content in a person's breath. The device uses an Arduino microcontroller and an MQ-3 alcohol sensor to measure alcohol levels, displaying results on an LCD screen. It was tested on subjects who consumed different alcoholic beverages. The results showed the device could accurately detect higher alcohol content in unconsumed versus consumed drinks, and that the type and amount of alcohol consumed affected the readings. The researchers concluded the Exhalyzer could help determine if a driver is legally able to drive based on measuring their breath alcohol content.

session, the researchers conducted two trials
and put the wine in a 50ml container, the
sensor calculated 0.6 of unconsumed
alcohol. The researchers then tested the
subject who had consumed wine and the
sensor calculated 0.5 of alcohol content.
The researchers tested different types
of beverages such as Gin, Tanduay, Coke,
Royal and Water. They were all placed in
containers with the same amount. The Gin
has 80% alcohol content and the sensor had
a positive reaction. The Tanduay has 50%
alcohol content and the sensor had a positive
reaction. The coke has no alcohol content
and the sensor had negative reaction. The
royal has no alcohol content and the sensor
had negative reaction. The water has no
alcohol content and the sensor had a
negative reaction.
The researchers tested five subjects
with different ages. They first tested a 65
year old which had 0.25 as the initial
reaction or the state which they were not
under the influence of alcohol. After four
hours, the device sensed it and calculated
0.64 alcohol level. The researchers then
tested the 45 year old which had 0.25 initial.
After four hours, the device’s sensor
calculated 0.6 alcohol level. For 35 years
old, the sensor had 0.24 of initial reaction
and after four hours it had 0.6 alcohol level.
For 25 years old, it had 0.2 of initial and
after four hours the sensor calculated 0.6
