GMR Primary Standard Template
Speakers’ Names
Interviewer: This is what your document should look like. Your margins should
look like this, and you should only adjust margins if you need
more space for really long names.
Interviewee: This is what you would type if there were a new person speaking.
If you know the name of the person, type that at the left margin
instead of “Interviewer” or “Interviewee.” If you know their full
name, the full name should be listed only in the header unless
otherwise specified. Only use their first name in the speaker label.
If the audio is not an interview use “Speaker 1” and “Speaker 2”
and so on.
Interviewer: If there are any words that you are not certain of, but you can spell
it phonetically, highlight them in blue, bold text, ONLY the first
time they are used, like this. Every other time that word or name is
used, make certain to spell it the same way you did the first time.
We can then use a “Find and Replace” to change it.
Interviewee: You do NOT need to type “ums” and “uhs,” unless specifically
instructed to type verbatim. Please read the style guide for words to
leave out.
Please give the filename in the top header as that of the audio or in
your assignment email. You should also replace “speakers’ names”
with the actual speakers’ names, whether it be “Interviewer” and
“Interviewee” or someone’s actual name.
Please read our Style Guide for the balance of our styles. Merely
use this template each time you type for us. Save this template on

your computer. When you are ready to type, simply open this
template. Click “Edit, Select All,” then click “Copy,” and then go
up to “File” and “New.” This will open a new document. Paste this
template into the new document.
Save the new document with the correct filename. Open it to begin
your work, but delete this text first. Your margins will already be
set and full justification will appear when you type.
Interviewer: At the end of the transcript, please indicate the end of that portion
of audio, just like below. As mentioned in the Style Guide, skip
one line between the last line of the dictation and [End of Audio],
then skip another line, then type Duration: and the number of
minutes. The duration should be a whole number, rounding up to
the next minute after ten seconds; do not include seconds.
[End of Audio]
