Lada Trany Script
Lada Trany Script
lada transmissions
by the end of this video you will learn how to take the damn thing off, what and
how much oil to put in and also some things youll need to look out for,but before
we get into it a bit of background
the car we will be working on today was born with a 4speed but about a month ago i
put a 5 speed in it, wich i bought from a wandering trader, aka some random gypsi
on fb marketpleace
funcionally speaking that tranny is fine but its waay too loud for my liking, take
a listen
a friend of mine gave me another (hopefully) good 5speed and since i have to
install it im gone grab the opputrunity to educate you folks a bit so lets get to
it
now before we can start wrenching on the car, a few things need to be dealt with on
the new tranny
first things first im gonna drain the oil out
i dont have the right torx bit for the drainplug im gonna drain it through the
fillport
with all the oil out, the other me can get to cleaning it up with some petrol and
while he is doing that, lets talk a bit about oil
you will need 1.3 liters of 75w90 or 80w90 gear oil for these types of
transmissions, but which one is better is up to who you ask, as long as you use
some good quality oil, it does not really matter but since the panda specifically
needs 75w90 im gonna roll with that,
because she'S been sitting for a few years, i would like to take a look inside so
ill take the sump/lid off, its held in pleace by 10 10mm nuts and a some goo
the inside looks very good, so ill clean up the sealing sufaces and put it back on
the old gasket really put up a fight so after about 10 miniutes of asking politely
with various sharp tool i gave up and attacket it with a wirewheel
the next thing on the list is taking out the shifter. this needs to be done for 3
reasons
one you cant really put it the gearbox on cuz this stick will hit the bodywork,
second, filling in the oil is much easyer though the hole on top where the shifter
lives normly
and three, this shifter is kaput so ill repleace it anyways
its held in pleace by 3 10mm nuts, just be careful not to drop them into the
gearbox, that would suck, wouldnt it
and the last thing on the list is to repleace the clutch bearnig
taking it off is really easy, you simply pull it off
while i was in there i cleaned up the sleeve, lubed it up with some cupper grease
and repleced the rubber as well
reassembly it a bit harder
you would want to put the bearing and the boot onto the fork fisrt and than tread
the whole assemby in pleace, just make sure the fork clicks in pleace, some hammer
action may be necessary
and with that done the transmission is ready to go on, but first the old one needst
to come off, so lets get to it
this job would idealy be done using a pit/ trench but mine is just too small for
these type of schenenigans so ill show you the pakistan truck method
jack up the car high enoug to fit you and the gearbox stacked on your stomack
and now to the fun part: disassembly
filming this is quite hard so for the most part you will see pictures
undo the bolts holding the dust cover plate, there should be 3 or for 4 of them im
not really sure, mine only had 2, disconnect the earth cable and remove the clutch
work cylinder which is held in pleace by 2 13mm bolts
unscrew the speedo cable and disconnect the reverse light switch
now undo the 4 transmission bolts, the lover ones you can get a socket on, for the
upper ones you will neet to use wrenches, so it will take some time,in the meantime
lets talk a bit about transmission mounts
try to remove the plastic cover under the carpett, mine only has inly 2 of the 4
screws in so it was easy, if you cant do that, you will have to remove the shifter
when the rear mount is undone
but if you could remove it, you will have acces to 2 of the 3 nuts for the shifter
finally you can remove the rear mount, its held up by 13mm nuts but be careful not
to accidentally drop the gearbox onto yourself
while its hanging remove the shifter, again, be carefull not to drop anything into
the gearbox
now pull off the gearbox, i did it by lying under it and carefully wigleing it out
and with that done, you have removed a lada transmission, well done buddy
reassembyl is the exact same, im not gonna bore you with that, the only thing i'd
like to mancion is puting the gerabox back on
the easyest way i think is to redneck benchpress that sucker up in pleace
now that thing is not too heavy, i can carry it around all they and im not very
jacked by any means but when you are laying under the car, trying to diamond
benchpress it in pleace, well gravity quickly becomes a bitch but its doable
the only thing to look out for is the speedo cable, you dont want to get it stuck
between the engine and the gearbox
oh and also try to tilt the engine back towards the firewall, itt will make thing a
lot easyer, you can do this by eather having a buddy holding it, or jacking the
front of the engine a bit
btw the new one is just a dream, here is a clip, same car, same road, same speed
and same gear
and thats it, thats all my wisedoom on lada transmission, if i could help you out

questions, drop them in the comment section below and see you in the next one
