Attitude Outcomes for Chemistry 30


Students will be encouraged to develop positive attitudes that support the responsible acquisition and
application of knowledge related to science and technology. The following attitude outcomes are to be
developed throughout Chemistry 30, in conjunction with the specific outcomes for Knowledge; Science,
Technology and Society (STS); and Skills in each unit.

Unit B: Students will:
Electrochemical 1. explain the nature of oxidation-reduction reactions

spontaneity, standard reduction potential, voltaic cell, electrolytic cell,
electrolysis, standard cell potential, Faraday’s law, corrosion.
Unit C: Students will:
Chemical Changes of 1. explore organic compounds as a common form of matter
Organic Compounds 2. describe chemical reactions of organic compounds.
20% of course mark  Organic compounds, naming organic compounds, structural formulas, structural
(~3 weeks) isomers, monomers, polymers, aliphatic and aromatic compounds,
saturated/unsaturated hydrocarbons, functional groups (alcohols, carboxylic
acids, esters and halogenated hydrocarbons), esterification, combustion
reactions, polymerization, addition, substitution, elimination.
Unit D: Students will:
Chemical 1. explain that there is a balance of opposing reactions in chemical equilibrium systems
Equilibrium Focusing 2. determine quantitative relationships in simple equilibrium systems.
on Acid-Base  Chemical equilibrium systems, reversibility of reactions, Le Chatelier’s

are used to provide feedback regarding a student’s understanding of the subject matter.
