BRIEF HISTORY
Nidec ASI: destined to be number one in industrial drive solutions
Nidec ASI, a destiny with roots that go back more than 160 years. Nidec ASI was formed in
December 2012 as a result of the acquisition of Ansaldo Sistemi Industriali Spa (ASI) by
Nidec Corporation. The company can trace its origins back to the founding of Ansaldo in
1853. ASI was born as Ansaldo’s stabilimento elettromeccanico (electro-mechanical
workshop) in 1899. From its inception, ASI has specialized in providing innovative power
control and system solutions that have satisfied hundreds of customers worldwide. Over
the past century and a half, ASI has established itself as one of the pioneers of Italian
manufacturing, engineering and industry.
As part of the Nidec Group, Nidec ASI is now able to offer a wider range of customers
solutions and services as a leading player in the supply of industrial automation systems,
power electronics, electric motors and generators in various applications and industries
such as Metals, Energy, Marine, Oil & Gas and General Industry (cement, environment,
rubber and plastic, materials handling, paper and ropeway).
In 2016 Nidec ASI was assigned responsibility for the Industrial Solutions platform within
the Nidec group.

3 - QUALITY AND SAFETY
The Company has been certified ISO9001 since the beginning of the ’90s.
The Company’s current Quality Management System complies with ISO 9001:2008
standard.
The structure of the QMS is based on a set of common rules, valid throughout the whole
Company and including: the QMS Manual, the Company Quality Policy and the most
relevant Procedures as required by the norm or by the processes.
Each single manufacturing unit has also developed specific procedures and instructions for
the management of the day by day routine, in order to take into account the requirements
of the products and services delivered by the unit itself.
These specific procedures are written in accordance with the main Company rules. The
QMS of the Company is certified by RINA.
The Company is well aware of issues concerning the environment and of the need to
preserve it. As a consequence, it adopted an EMS in the mid ’90s. Today the Company is
certified according to the norm ISO14001:2004.
The EMS takes into account the specific environmental issues of each manufacturing unit.
Specific environmental analysis and procedures have been put in place in each unit in
order to control and improve the management of the environment according to the needs of
the production cycles, products and services delivered at that unit. The EMS is certified by
RINA.
The Company has a long tradition in taking care of safety at work. Today the Company is
certified according to the norm BS OHSAS 18001:2007 for each Plants. The SMS of the
Company is certified by RINA.

INTRODUCTION
Our service and support network is never more than a phone call away. Representatives
are ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to assist customers with immediate technical
support geared to handle every phase of installation, start-up, maintenance and
troubleshooting. Providing the best assistance available to the customers is our must!
Nidec ASI is committed to growing our sales and service staff and branching out into new
regions to support the growth of our installed base. Because we are accustomed to
providing on-site service for all of our customers, each of our service representatives is fully
trained in variable frequency drives, motors and systems.

MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS
Nidec ASI provides maintenance programs to restore and improve the performance of
electrical and automation systems whether it was supplied by us or not. We also provide
services to help you maximize the longevity and reliability of your equipment. Our
technicians can assist you in defining a suitable spare parts management system to reduce
time and cost of maintenance. Our technicians perform an inspection of the system and
take inventory of the equipment and machinery, in order to define the optimum solution for
your needs.
Our Preventive Maintenance Programs are designed to increase plant up time and improve
operating conditions by reducing costs, downtime risk and unplanned production stops.
We are able to offer a real improvement option through our Preventive Maintenance
Programs.

UPGRADES
Our engineers continuously develop new solutions to bring our customer’s current system
to a higher state of efficiency and reliability. Upgrading is proposed to replace obsolete
components with new state-of-the-art releases, at the same time ensuring the continuous
operation of the plant or minimizing downtime.

REVAMPING
When the plant requires wider modifications to a technological area, our engineers can
develop a technical proposal, to be discussed with the customer and tailored to his specific
requests. An accurate evaluation of the plant outage will be necessary to minimize
downtime and relevant costs. In order to ensure full production rate or to comply with the
customer’s investment plans, a step-by-step revamping can be supplied, based on
scheduled shutdowns or on short maintenance stops.

REMOTE DIAGNOSTICS
This kind of service is available for plants in which an automation system based on our
software programs is installed. Remote diagnostics is possible through modem connection,
with a significant saving of the intervention time and related costs.
In 2001 NIDEC ASI S.p.a. launched its call centers in order to improve our Customer
Service program by providing our customers with more prompt Customer Service and the
ability to track service interventions in real time. The customer makes his request through a
phone call, an e-mail or a fax to one of our call centers. A ticket number is assigned and the
request is sent to the specific department in charge of fulfilling the request Requests are
tracked by the number assigned. This way the customer can check the status of his
request by simply asking the operator on duty (during office hours). The call centers are
active 24 hours/day seven days/week.
