Automatic Control of Traffic Signals, Based On The Density of Vehicles Using Microcontroller
Automatic Control of Traffic Signals, Based On The Density of Vehicles Using Microcontroller
One of the main problems in urban cities is traffic; the project which we
are proposing gives new solution to traffic control. The main aim of this project
is to control the traffic automatically without the presence of manual human
operation.
In many of the road plans “Four-way” or “Three-ways” junction is
common. In such a case, vehicle density is also high in the junctions; hence
automatic control of the traffic signals based on the vehicle density and
priorities (Ambulance or V.I.P Convoys) without the human interaction plays a
very vital role.
In this project we are planning to use IR communication to analyze traffic
density, i.e. IR signals is received by IR receiver and is given to microcontroller
and it analyzes the signal and shows the color of the traffic signal based on the
priorities.
The IR sensors are mounted on the street light (4 – 6) poles from the
signal side. When there is a more traffic density on one particular direction of
the road, more number of IR receivers will not receive the signal, this result will
be compared with all other directions and GREEN signals to the side where
more number of IR receivers will not get the signals and others remain in the
RED.
During the Emergency condition i.e. presence of Ambulance or VIP
convoy’s priority is given to this particular direction. When the intensity of the
sunlight is less i.e. during night time the street lights automatically switches
ON.
