In preparation for the TOEFL iBT Listening section, we often recommend that students read
articles and books on topics related to the topics areas covered in the listening section.

A. Listen to Academic Podcasts on:

http://www.openculture.com/2006/10/university_podc.html
This website is absolutely wonderful since you can listen to all of the topic areas from this
one website. Remember the key is to only listen as the key is improving the use of your
ears. We discourage relying on the TV or Movies as these are considered passive listening
which is the exact opposite of the TOEFL iBT requirement of active listening,

B. Listen to Talk Radio: Listening to talk radio is certainly one of the most effective ways to
build listening fluency in the topic areas. Specifically we suggest listening to NPR. You
can go to this website to improve your listening to the different topics pertaining to the
test. http://tunein.com/radio/Spoken-g2/

C. Lectures on Youtube: If you go to Youtube (www.youtube.com) and type in the word

lecture and any of the topics listed below, you will find lectures to listen to on the various
topics. You should simply LISTEN to the lecture and not focus on the non-verbal cues
from the professor. Simply use your ears.
