 The chain of related events that take place in a story
 Built around conflict, which is a struggle between opposing forces

Climax

Resolution or Falling
Conflict or Rising Action Action

Exposition Denouement
Parts of the Plot:

 Exposition– the part of the plot that sets the scene by introducing the
situation and settings, and likewise lays out the characters by
introducing their environment, characteristics, pursuits, purposes,
limitations, potentials, and basic assumptions.
 Rising Action– the action in the story leading up to the climax, and is
usually where the conflict starts. It often includes flashback,
foreshadowing, and suspense. (GETS THE BALL ROLLING)
 Climax– is the peak of the story which leads to an action, or even a
realization. This is the point of greatest emotional interest, as well as
suspense.
 Falling Action– the action in the story after the climax is revealed.
 Resolution– the part of the plot that reveals the final outcome. It is the
finishing of things right after the climax, and shows the resolution of
the plot. It is also the part that brings the story back to its equilibrium.
Kinds of Plot:

 Linear Plot – moves with the natural sequence of events


where actions are arranged sequentially

 Circular Plot – is a kind of plot where linear development of


the story merges with an interuption in the chronological
order to show an event that happened in the past.

 En Medias Res– a kind of plot where the story commences in


the middle part of the action.
