Applied Ethics Personal Ethics Statement
Applied Ethics Personal Ethics Statement
1. As the semester draws to a close, I’ve come to learn a lot more about myself this year
than any other. Going to school, dealing with the stress, and overcoming issues that have
occurred this semester has really taught me what my core values are. I have picked 5
values that matter most to me, that I use everyday in my life.
Perseverance is working hard at finishing whatever task you’ve been given. You always
finish what you start and take big satisfaction when that task is accomplished. I take a lot
of pride in my hard work, and I always finish everything that I start. I’ve never taken the
easy way out and put forth as much effort as I can because my parents have always taught
me that you get back what you put in. I have achieved many accomplishments throughout
my academic career from hard work and perseverance and it has gotten me great
internships throughout my college career. Thinking about my career in the future, having
this value will allow me to strive towards my goals, set me a part from other’s, and make
me a good leader because I’m very dedicated and motivated. I would agree that
m
er as
perseverance is my greatest strength.

Kindness is generosity towards others and the willingness to do favors for others even if
they’re not done well. My parents are the two kindest people I’ve encountered in my life.
o.
Kindness is an important value they hold and it has been passed on to my brother and I.
rs e
Being kind and caring is something I vow to be everyday of my life because I believe it is
ou urc
contagious and we need more of these values in our everyday life. I always do favors for
my friends and family because it’s a nice gesture and also in hope that they would do the
same for me. However this may also be my biggest weakness because I tend to put others
o
before me a lot. I always want to help others out and I have trouble saying no which has
aC s
hurt me plenty of times. At the end of the day however, it makes me happy to know I’ve
vi y re
been kind and caring towards others because a little kindness goes a long way. When
you’re a kind leader, people will follow you because they see how genuine and caring
you are about your job and others motivating them to care and be kind too.
ed d
Honesty is being honest and real not only with others but with yourself. It’s living life in
ar stu
an authentic manner and staying true to who you are. Honesty and kindness go hand in
hand, if you have kindness in your heart you are real and honest with yourself and others.
I’ve always been honest with myself and to others because that’s what I expect in return.
is
There’s no need to be fake and lie about something because it always becomes bigger
than what you expected and it makes you less credible. In order to be an effective leader
Th
you have to be an honest person so people are willing to trust you. I would never lie to
cover up my mistakes because I believe we can all learn from it. That being said, if I’m
ever in a management position I would open and honest with my co-workers to instill
trust and also encourage them to be truthful as well.
sh
Fairness is giving everyone an equal chance. Never put judgment upon others based off
personal biases. You always hear the saying, never judge a book by its cover, to me that’s

how fairness is defined. We’re all growing up and experiencing life differently, don’t
judge other people base off differences or similarities you might have with that person, be
fair and give everyone a chance. I try my best to be fair and not judge others because I
don’t want others judging me. I’m very open and tend to try to get to know everyone that
I meet before I make any type of conclusion about someone. Fairness is an important trait
to have when you’re in a leadership position because employees will only respond
positively if they know they’re being treated fairly. If you have favorites and express that
others can easily become less motivated and productivity in the workplace may decrease.
Humility is not putting yourself in the spotlight and letting your accomplishments speak
for themselves. It is being modest, humble, and not thinking you’re better than others. I
am an introvert so I never enjoy being in the spotlight. When I accomplish something and
get rewarded I never brag nor become egocentric, I smile, say thank you for the
recognition and move on with my life. I pride myself around this value because I believe
I am a very humble person. I don’t think I’m better than anyone else and I never put
others on a lower pedestal. I’ve always believed that my accomplishments speak for
m
er as
themselves and if I work hard enough things will fall into place. At the end of the day, as
long as I know I did what I had to do and did it well, that’s all that mattered to me. Being
co
eH w
a leader doesn’t mean you’re better than anyone else, be modest, be humble, and stay true
to your values. If you’re the kind of leader that thinks you’re better than everyone else on
o.
your team, you will lose support from co-workers and nothing will get done.

2. As far as “dream job” goes, I still have no idea what it is I want to be doing with my
life. I don’t expect to know until I’m well into my career to realize what I love and don’t
love to do. In 5 years however, I could (would like to) picture myself working for
o
interviews this year. I believe that this good would suit me well because it combines my
love for marketing and management. I will be able to manage my own accounts and help
develop campaigns for clients that work with McCann Erickson. I believe that I have the
leadership skills not only to manage a team but inspire, motivate, and challenge others to
ed d
do their best, take initiative, and be innovators. That being said, I hope to get promoted
ar stu
from Account Management to Marketing Director. In five years, this is what I hope to be
doing with my life and if I do get this opportunity my career would already be
worthwhile because I would be doing something I love knowing that I will do well and
is
succeed.

3. Ethical dilemmas always occur in both your personal life, and especially in the
workplace. The marketing world is very fast paced and competitive, sometimes you don’t
have much time to think. When it comes to decision making I personally believe that no
matter the circumstances doing the right thing always pays off somehow. As far as
sh
managing a workplace there could be a lot of issues at hand such as teamwork issues,
meeting deadlines, someone not pulling their weight, and tension in the workplace. I’ve
learned from my leadership class that every situation is unique and sensitive, you have to
make sure you handle it appropriately or else it will have a negative affect on productivity
and even other individuals in the workplace. Be ethical. I know it’s easier said than done,

but when it comes to management, make sure you are rational and don’t be so quick to
fire to judge someone. I think it’s best to take care of issues in the workplace right when
you see one, talk to every party involve and make sure that you’re making the right
choices when it comes down to make a decision.
I think another big issue in the marketing world is how competitive everyone is, and a lot
of people like to take credit for something they didn’t do or come up with to get an upper
advantage. You can’t stop that from happening, but you can most likely do something
about it if you see it happening. Don’t steal other people’s ideas even if you think it will
benefit the company that shows a lack of honesty and integrity. Being ethical not only
gives you good credibility but also the company you work for.
4. I know that being ethical isn’t easy, especially depending on the situation you are in
but I know myself well, and I know that there’s not been a time where I have done
something unethical (that mattered, unless little white lies count?). I hold very true to my
values and I never settle. My strengths are that I always make the right choices for myself
m
er as
without letting other people impact my decision. Sometimes my friends would suggest
doing something I don’t want to do, or something I know could possibly get us in trouble,
co
eH w
I tell them no and don’t do it. They would get mad at me from time to time but doesn’t
change my decision. I believe that voicing your values and acting upon it is one of the
o.
most important strengths to have when it come to ethical decision-making. I care about
rs e
how other perceive me, and I want my values to show through my actions. What enables
ou urc
me to be ethical is that at the end of the day when I’m reflecting on what I’ve done the
good choices with make me happy and make me sleep better at night. Doing the wrong
thing makes me feel bad about myself knowing that I could have potentially hurt other
o
people.

5. Personal Code of Ethics: No matter what happens, no matter the situation, always do
the right thing. Stay true to your core values, and never make an exception. Remember
that even if people don’t agree with what you do, if you make the right choices, nothing
ed d
else matters; stick to it, act on it, it will make you sleep better at night.
